This widespread farm-to-table initiative is the result of wanting to improve our health, return to our roots, and support our local farms. Not only does this practice mean a healthier lifestyle but also, often times, it means a more delicious plate of food. With ingredients coming directly from a local farm, the end consumer ultimately has more peace-of-mind, with a clear idea of the origins behind what’s on their plate. If you appreciate fresh, appetizing flavors, you’ll enjoy these farm-to-table restaurants in Austin.

Eden East

Eden East is a self-proclaimed ‘table-to-farm’ restaurant so named because it is hosted directly on-site at the source of their ingredients, Springdale Farms. The menu is constantly changing depending on the seasonality of local produce. However, regardless of these shifts in menu offerings, the local dishes never seem to disappoint. Currently you can try their Sweet Corn Soup made with coconut milk or end your meal with Peaches & Sugar Biscuits paired with ginger beer ice cream and topped with fresh mint, a dessert so bursting with flavor and freshness you’ll want to book your next table immediately.

Odd Duck

With a menu inspired by the Texas seasons, you can’t go wrong at Odd Duck. This local restaurant on South Lamar serves their signature Pig Face Rolls, which is exactly as advertised – with a surprisingly flavorful twist. Try the classic southern fried chicken with pickled green beans, and on hot summer days enjoy fresh watermelon with a side of hummus.

East Side Pies

Who doesn’t enjoy a good slice of pizza? With East Side Pies you can savor a cheesy slice knowing the ingredients are sourced from responsible Texas farms – and for gluten-free diners they even offer a coeliac version of their thin crispy crust. Daily pizza toppings vary depending on availability of local produce; past toppings have included tomatillo with arugula, sweet pepper, garlic chives, and pancetta. For a simpler slice you have farm basil, wax peppers, tomatoes, and homemade pizza sauce atop their signature thin crust.

Dai Due

Dai Due uses only ingredients from the surrounding region; their menu is solely dependent on what’s available during our Texas seasons. They cook with local olive oil, animal fats, and organic butter. Try their healing bone broth with monarda (a pinkish plant in the mint family) and purple sage. For breakfast they may offer sourdough pancakes with macerated peach, Mexican cinnamon bacon butter, and grilled bacon to top it off. For the summer nights their watermelon sorbet with Tajin spice can surely cool you off.
