Live the good life in sunny Florida – and don’t forget your dog. Pups dream of packing up their chew toys and retiring to the shores of Siesta Key, which offers laid-back luxury for canines and their owners. Here’s our pick of the best pet-friendly hotels in Siesta Key – bookable with Culture Trip.

While animals can’t frolic on the beaches in Siesta Key, you can always take a short half-hour drive south to Brohard Paw Park in Venice, the only beach in the area that allows dogs. So, after checking into a pet-friendly hotel room, suite or tiny house, pack a picnic, treats and a blanket, and head south to the dog-friendly sandy shores. Alternatively, explore the lively area closer to your temporary home, which has dog-friendly parks and restaurants where you and your pup can hang out.

Eat, sleep, swim, repeat at the Tropical Breeze Resort. Book the Crab Shack two-bedroom suite, and let your pooch spend all day by the private pool while you grill up some lunch on the barbecue. And when you want to move the party along, the Siesta Key Oyster Bar (which makes a mean crab cake) and the Daiquiri Deck are a frisbee’s throw away. Afterward, take an evening stroll around the area.

Show your miniature pinscher what living in the Sunshine State is all about at the Sea Spray Resort. It’ll dig the calm canal views from the balcony and the laid-back poolside living. When the sun sets and the stars start to sparkle, Sea Spray comes alive with tiki torches and a bonfire, a perfect way to end a day spent taking in the sights and smells of Siesta Key Village.

Hibiscus Suites couldn’t be closer to everywhere you and your dog want to be. Crescent Beach and the dog-friendly Phillippi Estate Park are both within a five-minute drive. Shopping and spas, including those for dogs, are just as close. The hotel does offer a complimentary breakfast with your stay, but if you and Scoob end up staying out late and need a midnight fix, Munchies 420 Cafe serves tasty eats, such as fried Twinkies and chicken nuggets, until the early hours.

One-bedroom, one-bathroom houses, such as the Siesta and the Seashell, are ideal for you and your dog; the Aqua Oasis and the Sand Dollar have room for five more. A short but sweet walk over the Stickney Point Bascule Bridge leads directly to Siesta Key, where you’ll find several pet-friendly restaurants, such as Spearfish Grille.

Right off Interstate 75, this pet-friendly Comfort Suites is a great stopover en route to Fort Myers or St Petersburg. Brohard Paw Park is only 16mi (26km) away, which means nothing less than a relaxing 30-minute drive with Charlie’s tongue flapping out of the open window. On the opposite side of the highway is Lakeview Paw Park if it needs to let some energy out before hopping back on the road.

Your pup will be surprised when it finds out Home2 Suites is near the Big Cat Habitat. With lions and tigers prowling about, it’ll have to think twice before giving chase. But the fright will be a thing of the past by the time you two are playing frisbee at Brohard Paw Park, just a 30-minute drive from the hotel. As for you, a large outdoor pool, a well-equipped gym and spacious, colorful suites make for a stimulating stay.

A couple of clicks south of Siesta Key, the Turtle Beach Resort and Inn has cozy pet-friendly cottages that’ll spoil you with a private hammock and a hot tub, and your pooch can take its pick of swimming in the bay or the gulf. You’re both free to hang out beside the pool, but if you want to really get away from it all, grab a complimentary kayak and go for a long paddle.

The Inn on Siesta Key is so close to the ocean that you’ll hardly feel the hot sand on your soles before you reach the water, but head to Brohard Paw Park so that your dog can enjoy the beach too. Spend the day with Spot as it digs holes, shakes off and goes searching for a prime piece of driftwood for you to throw. When you’ve both had enough sun, head back to your one-bedroom cottage and cool down in your private, shaded garden area.
