But traditionalists love the downtown locale where they gather to enjoy locavore cuisine hot off the grill. In the mood for a true Southwest breakfast? Try Matt’s Big Papa burrito with a local tortilla stuffed with three eggs, chorizo, roasted potatoes, organic pinto beans, jalapeños and cheddar cheese and doused with its house-made salsa.

Indulge in farm-to-table egg dishes at TC Eggington’s

In Mesa, you’ll be drawn to the colorful patio umbrellas where you can relax over a sumptuous breakfast. TC Eggington’s offerings are made from scratch using farm-fresh, local ingredients. The chefs crack over 8,000 fresh eggs a week from Arizona’s Hickman Family Farms, and regulars flock here for a late breakfast (served until closing). It also offers salads, muffins and pastries, but go for the egg dishes, such as the creamy veggie-filled frittata served in a shiny white dish right out of the oven.

Build your own bloody mary at Hash Kitchen

Known for its build-your-own-bloody-mary bar, Hash Kitchen offers more than 50 toppings for your favorite breakfast cocktail in its bustling Arcadia neighborhood eatery. There are other locations throughout the valley, but this site is the newest and boasts the largest and longest bloody mary bar. Pair it with decadent french toast or get local with the chilaquiles, corn tortilla strips simmered in a green chili sauce with shredded chicken, cotija white cheese and Mexican crema and topped off with two fried eggs.

Be awed by the baked goods at Prep and Pastry

On the trendy Scottsdale Waterfront is Prep and Pastry, founded and greatly loved in Tucson. Look to the right as you enter the light and airy space decorated with sparkling chandeliers to see the specialty pastries and those “mile-high” cinnamon buns. Sit inside or outside on the plant-lined patio, and relax with a newspaper and its excellent fresh food paired with a craft cocktail, a house-steeped tea or an organic coffee drink. After you have your breakfast, take a walk along the Arizona Canal, just steps from the door, and enjoy the shops and public art.

Sit under the trees at Morning Glory Café

You can walk around the gardens full of organic lettuce, tomatoes and flowers at the Farm at South Mountain and then sit down at a picnic table under the trees for your proper farm-to-table breakfast at Morning Glory Café. Order at the counter for takeout or to relax under the huge trees. It smokes its meats in-house, and the omelets are full of seasonal fresh-picked ingredients. Meanwhile, the baked goods are fresh out of the oven. There’s room to park your bike if you cycle here, and dogs on a leash are welcome.
