Boccella’s Deli
Deli, American, BBQ, Korean
A top spot in Lower Merion is Boccella’s Deli. They do their own melty, delicious sandwiches. One of the most popular is the cheesesteak and egg on a hoagie. We recommend ordering the perfectly crisp waffle fries as a side. Boccella’s also ventures outside of what could be served on a bun. Specifically, we’re referring to their amazing Korean BBQ tacos, which are not to be missed. In addition, Boccella’s Deli also serves lots of excellent regional brews.
Havertown Grille
Havertown Grille is our favorite hangout for breakfast and brunch in Lower Merion. Looking for something indulgent? Try the cannoli-stuffed French toast. For a more savory selection, check out ‘The Plumber,’ a bacon cheeseburger served with fried onions and an egg on top or the chorizo egg and cheese. Havertown Grille, also does all the traditional American breakfast staples like hash browns, pancakes, and omelets. Of course, they also make some excellent coffee to perfectly accompany anything you choose from the menu. Set in a brick building, Havertown Grille’s interior is simple and homey.
Ming’s Coffee and Tea
Ming’s Coffee and Tea also makes breakfast and brunch fare, but with a Chinese touch. This means that the menu also includes popular dim sum dishes as well as classic stir-fried noodles. Plus, each table has flowers set in china in addition to a trusty bottle of Sriracha hot sauce. Ming herself oversees all the food prep in the open kitchen. In fact, she’s been doing so for several years. Portions are notoriously generous. The pancakes are far too large to fit on one plate so they come folded in half. Order some freshly squeezed orange juice with your breakfast or a strong cup of coffee.

In addition to great Thai, there is fantastic Vietnamese to try in Lower Merion at Saigon Harbor. This place prepares authentic Vietnamese favorites to perfection like vermicelli noodles, broken rice dishes, lemongrass curry, and pho. They also do a pretty spectacular roasted quail appetizer, which we highly recommend. Saigon Harbor has a wonderfully friendly and attentive staff as well. The neat and tidy interior is casual, and there are tasteful Vietnamese decorations hung throughout. This is a great spot for a light and healthy meal that is equally full of flavor. Saigon Harbor is BYOB. One meal at this place, and you’ll want to come back for more.

One of our favorites is the Jennifer Roll, which comes with avocado, cucumber, and mango topped with shrimp and crabmeat. If sushi’s not really your thing, go with the ramen or the spicy seafood gumbo. For an appetizer, you can’t go wrong with some deliciously slimy agedashi tofu. The sultry interior features Japanese paper lanterns and bamboo decor. Pair your meal with a Japanese Asahi beer or some plum wine.
