South Philadelphia’s First Marijuana Dispensary Offers More Than Just Cannabis
Wellness-focused Herbology plans to offer everything from yoga to cooking classes in addition to medical cannabis.
South Philly may soon lay claim to its own neighborhood medical cannabis dispensary. Herbology is slated to open in August 2018, following the opening of the city’s first dispensary earlier this year.

The dispensary will be open to qualifying patients who are legally allowed access to medicinal cannabis. According to the Herbology website, the company is committed to improving the quality of life for their customers. They pride themselves on dispensing only the highest quality medicinal products while also offering holistic services.
The staff at this dispensary are well-educated about the positive effects of medical cannabis and work with customers to find the best strains for them. From treating anxiety and depression to pain and PTSD, Herbology offers a variety of cannabis products that can help.

The Philadelphia location is set to have a wellness center attached to the floor above it. The Herbology director of marketing and outreach, Mahja Sulemanjee Bortocek, says that they will partner with “local wellness providers” to bring meditation and yoga classes (which won’t involve cannabis) to the public. Classes covering the basics of medical marijuana use will be available.

The dispensary plans to offer marijuana cooking classes for free to medical card holders so that they may better incorporate cannabis into their diets. They’ll teach them how to use products like oils and tinctures to make meals, snacks, and baked goods.
Compared to other cities, Philadelphia is slow to offer medical marijuana dispensaries to the public. The state of Pennsylvania legalized medicinal cannabis in 2016.

The first Philly dispensary, Restore Integrative Wellness Center, didn’t open until March of 2018. Philadelphians in need of medicinal marijuana no longer have to leave the city to get their medicine. And, with the opening of Herbology, they’ll have more options as well as a chance to learn about health, wellness, and edibles.
