You might know Cannon Beach from the silver screen, but there’s plenty more to discover in this picturesque coastal city in northwest Oregon. Itching to explore? Base your adventure at one of these top places to stay in Cannon Beach.

One of the most recognized swathes of sand in America, Cannon Beach has played a starring role in Hollywood smash hits such as The Goonies, Twilight and Point Break, but there’s a lot more to this Pacific Northwest city than just a claim to fame. Chock-full of boutiques, galleries, bars and cafes, it’s a star away from the camera as well as in front of it. And to make the most of it, you’ll want to position yourself in one of the top hotels in Cannon Beach.

Cannon Beach Hotel

Call us low maintenance, but we love the simple pleasures of Cannon Beach Hotel. House-made cookies at check-in and locally produced saltwater taffy in every room put the sweet in home sweet home-from-home. Chit-chats with the staff and other guests in the lobby over coffee and cocktails add to the down-to-earth, small-town vibe, while the two-minute walk to the Pacific will seduce you with that laid-back surf bum lifestyle.

Inn at Cannon Beach

Where to kick back and what you’d like to be sipping while you do so are the only two issues you’ll find at the Inn at Cannon Beach. A comfortable adirondack chair beside the garden fire pit is tempting; though with the beach just a short walk away, watching the sunset with the sand for a seat is hard to bypass. Meanwhile, Sea Level Bakery, one block north, serves a spectacular cup of single-origin coffee; or for something stiffer, head to the Warren House Pub, one block south.

The Ocean Lodge

Make memories with the whole family during your vacation at the Ocean Lodge. The kids and grandparents can play together with the multi-generational amenities that include a library, bocce ball and sandcastle-building. Dogs are welcome and hounds of all ages will have no trouble trotting a few steps from the suite to the sand. And when the kids have been tucked in, the grown-ups can duke it out over a board game after the free wine reception or evening nightcap hosted daily downstairs.

Surfsand Resort

Bonfires and s’mores on the beach every night – if that’s not enough reason to stay at Surfsand Resort, allow us to give you a few more: Peloton bikes in the fitness center, a sauna session between massages, and ice-cream socials for the little ones. Convinced yet? Throw in a free-to-use bicycle in the daytime and a lantern at night for exploring everything Cannon Beach has to offer without worrying about the tide or the time.

The Waves at Cannon Beach

Independent Hotel

We hate to make your vacation difficult, but the three lodges that make up the Waves at Cannon Beach are hard to choose between. The Southwind Spa Suite at the Waves lodge is perfect for a romantic getaway, the generous windows lining the Beach House at the Argonauta Inn will make you fall in love with the Oregon coast, while the private sanctuary of the White Heron Lodge is a little farther from the beach yet dangerously close to the pub. It seems the only way to make the right choice is to stay one night in each.

No matter if it’s summer or winter, it won’t take you long to warm to the Inn at Haystack Rock. In hotter months, the lure of the sun will draw you a block down the street to the beach, or gently massage your shoulders while you barbecue in the courtyard. When the cooler months roll in, any chills will be melted away beside the communal fire pit or with a little help from your hot tub and fireplace.

If you’re looking for a taste of what it might be like to become a full-time beach bum, let the Inn at the Prom show you. Your unit, fully equipped with a kitchen, fireplace and two-person jacuzzi, will soon feel like it’s been yours for years. Brew your own coffee and walk barefoot from your front door to the beach, or slip on some loafers and grab the drink of the day at Beach Day Coffee to sip on as you window-shop through downtown.

Lanai at the Cove

Spend a little time along the seaside, just a dash from Cannon Beach, at Lanai at the Cove. Naturally, some rooms have ocean views, though the poolside patios are just as relaxing. You can start a long hike through Ecola State Park down to Cannon Beach via nearby Seaside Beach, but, then again, Seaside town has an aquarium, winery and golf course – and it’s neighbored by Painted Rock Beach, so there’s plenty to keep you busy.

Sea Sprite at Haystack Rock

Independent Hotel

Located in full view of photographer’s darling Haystack Rock, Sea Sprite will transport you back to a time nearly as old as the monolith itself. Studio suites and cottages each have full kitchens and breathtaking views opposite your front door. These simple yet serene lodgings at Cannon Beach keep you close to the ocean and town while letting you savor a quiet strip of shoreline where you’ll want to bring your family for generations to come.

The Courtyard

Independent Hotel

The Courtyard is set just far enough back from Midtown to offer the convenience and quietness you want from a beach vacation. You’re just three doors to the beach and only a short distance farther to the cafes, breweries and art galleries in Hemlock Street. A bubbling fountain and petite flower garden in the small private courtyard are as serene as the first sip of morning coffee with your complimentary breakfast at the Cannon Beach Cafe.
