Their succulent fare is made with the best locally sourced ingredients available, including all-natural pasture-raised beef from Oregon Natural Meats. A meat lover’s haven, vegetarians will be happy as well because they offer black bean patties as a meat alternative. Must-try dishes include the Fort Stevens with blue cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and truffle aioli and the holy cow with thinly sliced pastrami, Swiss, caramelized onions and horseradish cream sauce. Established in Portland in 1986, Nicholas Restaurant has expanded to three locations with one in downtown Gresham. Specializing in authentic Lebanese and Middle Eastern delicacies, this family-owned and operated restaurant uses homespun recipes and top quality ingredients. They also use organic fare and locally sourced products to make their flavorful dishes. A brightly colored interior awaits guests seeking tasty items, such as veggie grape leaves stuffed with garbanzo beans, cilantro, thyme, mint, tomatoes and garlic served with tzatziki. There is also lamb kibbah – lamb and bulgur dough with ground top sirloin and caramelized onion filling. For a satisfying end to a delicious meal, try a Turkish coffee and rice pudding with pistachios and whipped cream.
Spinella’s Off the Wall
Housed in a historic 1928 former-church, Spinella’s Off the Wall is a lively venue featuring American cuisine and fun entertainment. Procuring quality ingredients, from local purveyors where possible, the culinary team has created a large menu with everything from burgers to pasta to sandwiches. Dishes to enjoy include the bell tower bacon burger with a patty packed with bacon plus topped with bacon, cheddar, tomato, red onion, lettuce, and bacon aioli. There’s also the vitalia vedure pasta, which is fettuccine with broccoli, squash, mushrooms, red peppers, and roasted garlic tossed in alfredo sauce. Established in 2011, Sweet Betty’s is a popular breakfast and lunch spot serving up tasty American fare to hungry diners seven days a week. A family-friendly place with a funky vibe, complete with black furnishings, art-adorned walls and creamer served out of baby bottles, this bistro offers a menu with an array of sweet and savory dishes. Dishes to note include French toast made with raspberry cinnamon bread and topped with butter and powdered sugar and the biscuit breakfast – a buttermilk biscuit smothered with sausage gravy accompanied by eggs and bacon or sausage. Another good pick is the artichoke omelet stuffed with artichoke hearts, feta, tomatoes, basil and mixed cheese.
