As North Dakota’s largest city, Fargo is recognised as the cultural centre of the state. Home to a plethora of exquisite restaurants specializing in everything from seafood to pizzas, and steaks to sushi; Fargo has a restaurant to suit every fancy. Doolittles Woodfire Grill

Doolittles Woodfire Grill, Fargo

Famous for its wood-fired rotisserie cooking methods, Doolittles Woodfire Grill never fails to attract swarms of locals and visitors to the area into its cosy dining room each evening. Self-basted and grilled over an open flame, the meat here has a delicious smoky, barbecued flavour which could never be achieved using any other cooking method. On chilly summer evenings guests can also make themselves toasty by gathering around the outdoor fire pit to enjoy their meaty skewers al fresco. Fargo Cork’ n Cleaver

Fargo’s premiere steakhouse Cork’ n Cleaver opened in 1970 and is still as good a restaurant today as it was then. Serving up an abundance of fish, seafood and pasta dishes alongside the succulent hand-cut steaks and ribs, Cork’ n Cleaver is also well known for its signature salad bar full of crisp, freshly prepared varieties and homemade dressings. Book a table on a Thursday evening to enjoy live folk, jazz, blues and rock music in front of the crackling fireplace after eating for the perfect end to a lively, enjoyable meal out.

JL Beers

Living by the mottos ‘red meat is good for you and potatoes are vegetables’, and ‘the problem with the world is that everyone else is a few beers behind’, JL Beers specialises in homemade freshly ground beef burgers served on signature buns with a side of crispy fries. Diners can choose from an array of tasty toppings to add to their burger including grilled onions, jalapenos and slaw. As the name would suggest, JL Beers also has a huge array of beers to choose from including those on tap, imported bottles, domestic cans, mixed brews and beertails.

Lucky’s 13 Pub

Known for its huge menu, great gluten-free options and wide selection of micro beers, Lucky’s 13 Pub features a scratch kitchen ensuring that each dish is unique to Lucky’s. The cuisine is typically American, with starters including pork riblets, pizza rolls and beef tenderloin bites, and main courses such as burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, fish and chicken dishes. A cool place just to hang out with a drink and a snack, stop by on a Monday for a $5 burger or on a Friday or Saturday night to listen to the live bands.

Mezzaluna

Tucked away behind the Fargo Theatre in the downtown area of the city, Mezzaluna is a little gem well worth seeking out. The expert chefs use locally sourced ingredients to create the artisan American food options on offer here including the house-ground burger and the grilled duck confit. Large windows, wooden beams and a bare brick interior blends the traditional with the modern creating a warm, contemporary yet homely atmosphere in which to enjoy a hearty and nutritious meal. Vodka lovers shouldn’t leave without trying the Grey Goose Vodka that Mezzaluna has on a frozen tap.

Osaka Seafood Steakhouse

An entertaining dining venue, the Osaka Seafood Steakhouse has several hibachi grill tables where each party has their own teppanyaki chef to put on a show for them whilst cooking their meat, fish and seafood dishes. Choose between vegetables, chicken, salmon, scallops, shrimp, tuna, swordfish, steak or lobster tail and pick a selection of sides or a sushi platter to enjoy alongside it. The perfect stop off for some late night grub, Spicy Pie Pizza is a quirky little eatery that prides itself on making its pizza dough from scratch only ever using flour produced by North Dakota Mill. Appealing to a young, hip clientele, beer kegs act as table legs, table tops are decorated by local artists and a wall of the restaurant has been set aside as a graffiti wall to be used by anyone who wants to get in touch with their creative side. Stop by during the day to try Spicy Pie Pizza’s homemade tortilla chips, taco shells and tostadas fresh from the oven.

Texas Roadhouse

A great restaurant choice for family meals and casual dining, the Texas Roadhouse serves an abundance of steaks, ribs, pork chops, bbq roasted chicken and salads with freshly baked bread. The affordability of this restaurant means it fills up quickly so customers are advised to reserve a table to avoid long waits or disappointment. To get an even better value meal still, choose the early dine option by ordering before 6pm Monday to Thursday. For simple and tasty traditional American dishes, Texas Roadhouse delivers on every level.

Vinyl Taco

Go for the music as well as the tacos, Vinyl Taco plays records on turntables behind the bar in this authentically Mexican joint. Serving street food both of American and Mexican origins, order a bowl of chips and guacamole to start before deciding between a choice of enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos and sides. A great selection of margaritas, tequila, moonshine and bourbon are available to complement the food, and the agua de hibiscus is a deliciously fresh choice of beverage for those looking for something non-alcoholic.
