Top 10 Cozy Coffee Shops In Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

Christine O'Leary

Wedged between Fort Green and Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill is a tiny neighborhood that loves its coffee. Home to several roasting factories (Kitten Coffee, Parlor Coffee) and amazing barista-training workshops at nearby Procreate Coffee, there is no lack of caffeine to be consumed. Here’s our guide to 10 of the best coffee shops in Clinton Hill.

Primrose Café, Clinton Hill

1. Primrose Cafe

Cafe, French

Lodged in the garden level of a brownstone, Primrose Cafe is a quaint and friendly coffee shop with a French-inspired menu (ham and cheese, pear and brie, baguettes and croissants), but knows its clientele can’t live without its revered avocado toast. Primrose serves locally roasted Kitten Coffee, which can be enjoyed at the window ledge, at one of a handful of tables or on the spacious front or back patios. In the evenings, stop by for a beer or a glass of wine.

2. Outpost Lounge

Bar, Cafe, Juice Bar, American

Despite its bounty of tables and counter space (as well as an outdoor patio), this spacious coffee shop packs up quickly. Outpost offers coffee, a hefty food menu and a juice bar. The coffee is good, but this is less a crafty coffee bar than a hip local joint to grab good eats and work comfortably (albeit noisily). Stick around long enough, and you can reward yourself with a post-work wine or beer. Don’t forget to check out the rotating artwork lining the walls.

3. Urban Vintage

Cafe, American

Walking into Urban Vintage is like walking into your (chic) grandmother’s living room for tea, but with a lot more tables and strangers. Games, knick-knacks, flowers and merchandise line the large white wooden book shelves. The full menu offers both sweet and savory bites such as salads and macarons, as well as a variety of grilled cheeses. Browse the eclectic selection of gifts (jewelry, flasks, greeting cards) while you wait for your order.

4. Lunitas

Cafe, Restaurant, American

A local favorite, Lunitas is a cozy, boutique-style cafe serving Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and eggs alongside other seasonal selections among a small shop of housewares and vintage goods for children. Lunitas offers a calmer and more contained alternative to the bustling Outpost Lounge across the street, with the sweet twist of promoting a family-friendly vibe. The spot hosts events for children like sing-along classes and Photo Booth sessions, and kids can enjoy the playroom in the back while mom or dad enjoy some (much needed) coffee.

5. Brewklyn Grind

Bar, Cafe, American

Brewklyn Grind is a coffee drinker’s coffee shop. The space is rustic but clean and uncluttered. Enjoy a quick macchiato at the spacious, sun-drenched bar, or linger with a latte at a wooden table. If you’re hungry you can even get a pretty substantial snack such as an empanada or quiche, or keep it classic with a chocolate croissant. If you decide to try a bag of beans, take a closer look at the packaging, which features the work of local artists.

6. Parlor Roastery and Tasting Room

Cafe, Coffee Shop, American

Parlor Roastery and Tasting Room is not your traditional coffee shop. This beautiful, simple, industrial space is the brewing location for Parlor Coffee, where employees taste test their beans for quality. The Roastery and Tasting room hosts weekly, free cuppings (coffee tastings) and the tasting room is officially open for purchasing beans and brewing equipment on Sundays.

7. Clementine Bakery

Bakery, Pastry Shop, Vegan, Pastries

Clementine Bakery is a cozy but no frills (one table and a handful of stools line a sunny window) open-kitchen bakery specializing in delicious gluten-free and vegan baked goods. While the coffee may be second priority at this shop, a cortado or latte (which you can get with coconut, almond, soy or regular milk) goes well with an earl-grey infused cookie or a strawberry-mint scone. You can also rely on Clementine for a fresh, gluten-free loaf of bread or a savory sandwich as well as ice cream in the summer.

8. Daily Press Coffee

Bar, Cafe, Wine Bar, Pastries

Coffee shop by day, wine bar by night, Daily Press is situated conveniently atop the Franklin C station, making it perfect for that morning pick-me-up on the way to work and a wind-me-down Pinot on the way home. The espresso is always creamy and delicious, the pastries always fresh and fluffy, and despite its compact size you can almost always find a place to sit – especially in the summer when the back patio is open.

Restaurant, American

Although not technically within the bounds of Clinton Hill, SCRATCHBread deserves an honorable mention. The shop serves Stumptown Coffee hot, cold and nitro-cold on tap. Likened to a cold coffee Guinness blend, nitro-cold brew taps out quickly. Enjoy your coffee with a build-your-own sandwich or pizza made from only the freshest ingredients, or choose from their hearty and imaginative specials like the Puma Sandwich: chopped egg and slow roasted pork with balsamic pickles. Feeling a little more traditional? Go for a scone or shortbread cookie. Originally just an order up window, SCRATCH has recently expanded just enough to shelter hungry souls from the cold – so bring it home or gobble it down on a bench in nearby Herbert Von King Park.

10. Bedford Hill Coffee Bar

Bar, Cafe, American

Bedford Hill is a cute and quick cafe offering staples like breakfast sandwiches, lox-lined bagels and BLTs. Alternatively, come for a glass of wine and the new duck sandwich in the evening. Located just past the Clinton Hill border, this garden-level corner coffee shop has large windows, bright yellow tables and delicious baked goods from Ovenly.
