Prospect Lefferts Gardens, a burgeoning neighborhood on the Southeastern edge of Prospect Park, was short on solid brunch locales just a few short years ago but now there seem to be new places popping up around every corner. Quite a few delicious and inexpensive choices have emerged in this small section of Brooklyn. Here is our guide to the best.

Midwood Flats

Already a beloved neighborhood bar, Midwood Flats began serving brunch to roaring success. The menu is as delightfully prepared as the evening menu, and it won’t break the bank. Midwood Flats has all of the classic options while also offering some unique choices, such as asparagus with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, a nice alternative to the standard eggs benedict. Brunch cocktails such as mimosas and Bloody Marys are available.

Blessings Herbs And Coffee

Blessings Herbs and Coffee is a perfect mix between coffee shop and brunch place. It has an eclectic selection of brunch food items (including a savory pancake with Mexican flare) that are ordered at the counter and brought to the table. The prices are affordable, and since alcohol is not served there’s no danger of getting carried away with too many cocktails. The staff is friendly and creates a wonderful, homey atmosphere. The space is decorated with mismatched tables and chairs, and there are esoteric used books lining the walls. Blessings also boasts incredible pastries. There are live music performances during the day on the weekends. Blessings is a truly wonderful place to laze away the hours.

Waynie’s Waffles

At Waynie’s Waffles, the agonizing choice of what to get for brunch is taken away, because there’s only one option, a waffle, and it’s one of the best waffles you’ll ever have. The waffles are perfectly golden brown on the outside and fluffy and delicious on the inside. Tucked inside of Delroy’s Café and Wine Bar, you’ll only catch this place on Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 5PM, with Waynie himself serving up the delectable waffles. There are some side additions if you want to round out the meal a bit, and of course the classic brunch cocktails are available.

Mango Seed

Mango Seed, a largely Caribbean style restaurant, carries its island spice into the brunch menu. Mango Seed has a wide range of rum cocktails, and it’s the only spot in the area that serves unlimited mimosas. Brunch is only offered on Sundays, but this place is worth planning your weekend around. It also has an extensive and pleasant backyard, where musicians perform live. The service is casual, but very welcoming, right in line with the robust Caribbean cuisine. Mango Seed truly embodies the spirit of the neighborhood.

Tip Of The Tongue

Another order-at-the-counter style coffee shop/restaurant, Tip of the Tongue makes one of the best breakfast sandwiches in town and offers some of the best coffees and espressos you could ask for. The alcohol is pricy, especially considering the coffee shop atmosphere, but if you’re in the mood for a more casual brunch experience without forgoing the cocktail, this is the perfect place to visit.
