Free People’s bohemian, sunshiny aesthetic lends itself to summer festivals and retreats, so launching FP Escapes—an Instagram-ready wellness getaway series—was a perfectly on-brand move. The premise is yoga, nutritious food and good company set in some of the world’s most striking travel destinations, like the big wilderness of Montana’s Glacier National Park.

This August the Mother Mountain trip lands in the glacier-sculpted peaks and valleys of the Montana Rockies.

Here, turquoise lakes reflects looming snow-dusted mountains and dense woodland — a landscape that lends itself to digital detoxing, meditation and forest bathing.

Attendees will immerse themselves in nature with guided hikes and outdoor yoga, followed by star gazing and glamping at Glacier Under Canvas—safari-like tents decked out with blanket-strewn beds and wood-burning stoves that provide the best of both worlds: cozy nights and fresh mountain air.

Daily yoga comes courtesy of Mother Mountain “guide” Maria Margolies, a yogapreneur who studied under master yogi Sri. K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, and whose sequencing style is billed as “feminine flow with fiery kundalini.”

Food for the trip is classic retreat fare—veggie-dense and packed with nutrients, but hearty enough to fuel an itinerary of epic excursions. Montana establishment Farmer & Chef scours the state’s best organic farms, cherry-picking the freshest ingredients to create a vegetarian, wheat-free menu.

The Mother Mountain retreat runs August 13-18 and prices start at $1,800 inclusive of accommodation, excursions, daily yoga and meals, Glacier Park entry fees, and a herb and supplement workshop.

About the author

Born and raised in Bristol, England, Esme has been geeking out over syntax her entire life. She studied English Lit by the Brighton seaside before moving to London to pursue her writing career in 2009, going on to work for Grazia Daily, The Telegraph and SheerLuxe. In 2013 she swapped The Big Smoke for The Big Apple, where she trained as a yoga teacher and contributed to Refinery29, Self, Fitness Magazine and Greatist. When she's not glued to her laptop or iPhone you'll find her drinking Kale Margaritas at an East Village happy hour, planning her next adventure, or hand-standing (with more vigor than skill) at the yoga studio.
