The Chicken And Rice Guys

With three trucks to choose from, The Chicken and Rice Guys is a tour de force on the Boston food truck scene. After seeing the disgraceful void of chicken and rice offerings in Beantown, the C&RG team dutifully stepped up. In two short years they have become a street food mainstay in Boston, stacking up top rankings in the process. The Chicken and Rice Guys keep it simple, serving up generous portions of quality meat (chicken or lamb) with well-cooked rice. For the indecisive empty stomachs out there in Boston, this might be just the ticket.

Mei Mei Street Kitchen

With five different weekly locations and a restaurant on Park Drive, the team at Mei Mei Street Kitchen is taking Boston’s hunger seriously. Their daily changing menu keep lovers of creatively inspired food on their toes, likely while they’re stand in line. A brief look at their sample menu shows a Chinese-American core that takes influence from Thailand, Eastern Europe and even the Deep South. Keeping the Mei Mei fans happy is the beloved ‘Double Awesome,’ a scallion pancake sandwich with local greens pesto, Vermont cheddar cheese & two slow-poached then fried eggs. Check their Tumblr and Twitter pages for daily menu updates.

Green Muenster Grilled Cheese

Roxy’s Grilled Cheese

Acting as a beacon for Boston’s cheese fanatics, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese is a dairy delight. Perhaps the most famous food truck on this list, the sandwiches here are well documented. The Food Network even featured the truck on ‘The Great Food Truck Race’. Leave any pretensions you might have against the grilled cheese behind. With Fontina, Vermont cheddar, Muenster, Swiss, pimento and goat cheese this is a far from modest affair. Stand out dishes to make your heart flutter are the dangerously moreish truffle fries and the ‘Mighty Rib’, which is a grilled Fontina cheese stuffed with BBQ braised beef and caramelised onions.

Captain Marden’s Cod Squad

New Englanders are said to know their way around a clam, and Captain Marden’s Cod Squad does its best to testify this claim. On location at Harvard University, Boston Public Library and the Innovation and Design Building, the team is serving up seasonally fresh brain food to those Bostonians who need it most. New England’s premiere seafood monger, Captain Marden decided to extend his fish empire to the road and offer scallops, oysters, lobster, crab and clams to the delight of the masses. Be sure to taste the clam chowder of the day, and mop the sweet broth up with homemade corn bread. Track the Cod Squad’s whereabouts during the week via its Twitter page, and grab your catch of the day!

Taco Party Truck

Keith Schubert has channelled his knowledge of global vegetarian cuisine into a fun, mobile venture. The Taco Party Truck combines Mexican cuisine with tasty culinary treats from around the world. Adventurous dishes include the ‘Buffalo Tempeh’, which combines Indonesian heat with a cooling tomato cucumber salsa and vegan ranch dressing. Most of the menu is also gluten free.

Stoked Pizza

Stoked Pizza has managed an impressive feat in becoming Boston’s first food truck to boast a wood-fired pizza oven. The truck serves up pizzas to Neapolitan perfection in 3 minutes flat. If you want your food fast and hot then this might be the truck for you. Pizzas range between 6 and 9 dollars, making it great value if you’re looking to share slices and not too costly if you are not! Stoked Pizza is proud to be vegetarian and vegan friendly with soy/dairy mozzarella available upon request. The buffalo Brussels sprout Pizza is healthy(ish) and delicious. Check out their Twitter page to stay on top of their location.

Bon Me

The concept is simple at Bon Me. Choose between a regular sandwich, a Vietnamese sandwich, a rice bowl and a noodle salad and then add your fillings. What isn’t simple is the quality and imagination that goes into these fillings. Miso-braised pulled pork is fused with the American South. There are also vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free options. The toasted soy and paprika tofu is particularly recommended. Like the wheels on the trucks, the menu is in constant rotation. So don’t forget to check their Twitter to see what’s on.

Yumm Bai

Yumm Bai roughly translates to the command ‘eat!’ in Cambodian. Run by a mother-daughter team, the lo mein is especially good and is served with a choice of BBQ pork, shrimp and vegetables. But Momma’s egg rolls are the highlight to any visit to Yumm Bai. With recent appearances at the Food Trucks of New England festival in Newport, this is one Boston newcomer to keep your eyes on. Find their travelling habits and special creations all on their Twitter page. Buffalo egg rolls anyone?

Sheherazad

Sheherazad is one Bostonian food truck doing spice right. Offering up a falafel-free selection of Middle Eastern cuisine, they have earned a posse of loyal and hungry followers. Their treatment of baba ganoush and hummus will renew those disenchanted by over produced shop bought varieties. There are plenty of delightful dishes; crispy fried cauliflower wraps for vegetarians; subtly spiced turmeric beef for meet lovers; Iraqi red chicken for those who revel in spiciness; and a slow-cooked lamb served up fast? Check their Twitter for today’s menu.

Clover Food Lab

In anticipation of the vibrant food truck trend, Clover Food Lab starting selling fresh local produce back in 2008. Clover is committed to sourcing organic local ingredients whenever possible. Vegetarian sandwiches are a big crowd pleaser, with fresh soups warming stomachs in the brutal winter. Freshly squeezed juices and hot coffee will wash down dishes from the constantly changing menu. Head over to their website to experience the culinary movement.
