Nisei Lounge

This lounge is epic for tourists, because the rite of passage drink — a shot of Malört — is in stock here. This Malört haven has a dartboard, a pool table, and a rowdy atmosphere, without the trouble of paying cover.Nisei Lounge is an awesome dive bar with friendly, fun bartenders. Although it’s been open since 1951, it has aged very well, and its jukebox music set up is a hit.

Sluggers

The appeal of Sluggers is its high energy, sports bar feel — and the fact that there are batting cages upstairs! There are a lot of TVs as well, and the sidewalk patio is only a stone’s throw from Wrigley Field. Although this bar is extremely crowded on game days, it has a manageable set up with beer in the middle of the bar, along with multiple beer tubs in the surrounding area. The food is phenomenal; the wings are the local favorite, but there are plenty of options with decent pricing.

The Gman Tavern

The Gingerman Tavern changed management and is now called the Gman Tavern, but it still has the same divey, laid-back atmosphere. The jukebox is full of classics. Although it is crowded on game nights, the drinks are affordable and the environment is low-key. The tile mosaic floors give the bar a fun, old school feel. The Gman is a good spot before a show at The Metro. Keep in mind that it’s a cash-only bar!

Guthrie’s Tavern

With over 70 craft brews, Guthrie’s Tavern is a beer drinker’s paradise. With local beers and unique, foreign brews, Guthrie’s is the place for a personalized beer tasting. This place also caters to board game lovers. There is an entire bookcase packed with the most popular games. It’s highly recommended that you get to Guthrie’s on the early side to snag a table. The bar food is a delicious option, but Guthrie’s also allows you to bring your own food or get delivery.

Trace

While Trace leans more toward late nights, it’ll fulfill any rock n’ roll lover’s expectations. With its extensive beer list and stylish art, it’s the ideal 4am spot. Expect great conversation and a good time dancing off all those tequila shots. The music will help revive you from the day drinking, and it’s accompanied by music videos displayed on all of the TVs. The bar has two floors, so the crowd should never be completely overwhelming, unless you’re there between the hours of 2am and 4am.

Lucky’s Sandwich Company

Lucky’s Sandwich Co. sandwiches are so massive, that it would be wise to split one with a friend. This restaurant is well known, because it was featured on Man Vs. Food. These sandwiches are anything but dainty, considering they are filled with french fries, meat, coleslaw, and a slew of other delicious condiments. With a laid-back but upbeat ambiance, Lucky’s is a great spot to take a breather from the heavy drinking and loud music by Wrigley Field.

The Dugout Sports Bar & Grill

The Dugout is a basement bar that attracts baseball fans looking for the Cubs game experience. Open Wednesday through Saturday, this bar offers cheap drinks and a convenient location. This spot attracts an extremely rowdy crowd, and it’s been around for a long time, so it contains the most authentic Cubs fans. Although the food is not highly recommended, The Dugout is a fantastic pit stop for a drink with a loud, roaring environment similar to Wrigley Field.

Bernie’s Tap & Grill

For those that don’t make it into the Cubs game, Bernie’s is the best alternative — especially because of its location, across the street from Wrigley Field. Bernie’s gives you the option to book a private room with a small bar and five TVs so you can watch games with your buddies. It has been around since 1954, and inside you’ll notice photographs that showcase the history of Chicago. The Reuben burger is a specialty, and the Monday Night Special is an incredible value, with the option to choose any burger on the menu and any beer on the menu, all for seven dollars.

Murphy’s Bleachers

Fans celebrate a Cubs win at Murphy’s, a tavern outside Wrigley Field

Murphy’s is the top choice bar for Cubs fans. It attracts a wide range of fans, and it’s great for post-game drinks, as well. You can often find the opposing team’s players at this bar after the game, and the service is efficient and friendly. The amount of seating and the number of TVs are the main attractions. Beware; due to its convenient location, this place can be extremely crowded on game days.
