Hidden behind the cobblestone streets and vintage storefronts lies a unique neighborhood on Chicago’s north side that has an international flair, ideal for people wanting a diverse travel experience. Work up an appetite by exploring the area, and then head to one of Lincoln Square’s best restaurants.

Luella’s Southern Kitchen

Luella’s Southern Kitchen is so named as a token of gratitude for the hard work Luella Funches put into making her family happy over the years; her granddaughter Kim and great-grandson Darnell cook the foods Luella used to make on a day-to-day basis for their patrons. Everything is delicious; however, if it’s your first time, get the buttermilk fried chicken (the texture of the skin is amazing) with spicy gravy, collard greens, and biscuits. Eating this meal in the small sit-down area, with Kim and Darnell making sure that everything is to your liking, will make you feel like part of the family.

For any New Yorkers getting homesick while in Chicago, Jimmy’s Pizza Café is the place to go for pizza. Everything is cooked fresh daily, and their thin crust is the best of its kind in Chicago. Whether you want a pizza for the family, a slice the size of your head, or some New Orleans-style beignets, Jimmy’s is a must-try.

Rockwell’s Neighborhood Grill

Bar, Pub, Restaurant, Pub Grub, American

After a long day at work, there is nothing like a burger with onion rings and a cold beer from Rockwell’s Neighborhood Grill. Just off of the Rockwell Brown Line train stop, this pub is the go-to place for residents of Lincoln Square. Even though there is a full bar and TVs around the restaurant, the noise level is moderate and allows families to catch up after an exciting day of work, school, or sightseeing. Start the meal off with a burger and some fries, and make sure to end it with a homemade, tantalizing dessert.

Shawarma Inn

Shawarma Inn is one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Chicago. After sitting down and looking at the menu, the servers come to take your order. Every sandwich comes with a soup, make sure to order the lentil variety. While the shawarma sandwich is to die for, the shrimp and salmon filets are also a must.

River Valley Farmer’s Table

Growing their own produce, River Valley Farmer’s Table is a hidden gem with something for everyone. With fruits and veggies on every plate, guests are guaranteed a healthy and delicious meal. Thankfully, the servers are willing to share their secrets and pass down recipes to you and your family.
