Suwanee, a city on the outskirts of Atlanta, has repeatedly been voted as one of the best places to live, particularly if you’re raising a family. The extensive restaurant choice reflects Suwanee’s diverse population. No need to travel overseas to explore different cuisines, here are Suwanee, Georgia’s 10 best local restaurants.

Taqueria Los Hermanos

Taqueria Los Hermanos is a homely Mexican restaurant that prides itself on fresh, quality ingredients and authentic recipes. Their tacos are famous, particularly chicken and pastor, though the less genuine Philly taco is also popular. For dessert, the tres leches cake with generous fruit topping is highly recommended. Have a couple of margaritas to wash it all down. The Taqueria ambience is very relaxed and the staff are warm and welcoming.

Country Pepper

Restaurant, Jamaican

This is the destination for Jamaican classics with a home-made touch. Country Pepper is a low-key family-owned restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful, guiding Jamaican food newbies through the menu. Take the opportunity to try the flavorsome goat curry or oxtails, the most popular dishes on the menu. If you’re not feeling as adventurous, the spicy jerk chicken or chicken curry are recommended. Side dishes include rice, beans, cabbage and plantains, as well as Jamaican spinach, callaloo.

Mori House

Mori House serves Japanese classics ranging from sashimi to ramen in a casual but stylish minimalist environment. The interior features wooden divisions with Japanese ceramics and statues. The sushi is excellent and fresh. It’s not an exaggeration to say that each dish looks like a work of art. Look out for the special nigiri sprinkled with gold leaf. Other specialties include the golden gate roll, cherry blossom roll and the ahi poke salad. Staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, on hand to provide menu recommendations.

Umaido

If you’re craving ramen, Umaido is the place to come. The interior has an industrial, modern vibe and the friendly staff are more than willing to explain the different varieties of ramen. The seating arrangements are authentically Japanese with counters lining the serving area and the walls. The ramen broths here are rich and full of flavor. Try the staple Tonkotsu ramen with slices of pork, or for the brave, the spicy miso ramen. Besides ramen, Umaido serves some good side dishes including hirata buns (pork in a steamed bun with a spicy sauce) and grilled octopus balls called takoyaki.

The Curry Pot

The Curry Pot, a family-owned Indian restaurant; inside is spacious and smart, if a little dark. Lunches are buffet-style, while dinner is only à la carte. On arrival, you are presented with 3 chutneys and papadum while you ponder the menu. And there is much to ponder. The choice is extensive, and will please both adventurous meat eaters and vegetarians, as well as everyone in between. Meat options include goat curry and lamb korma. Meanwhile, vegetarians can enjoy daal mahkani or chana masala. Importantly, you can ask to have your dish mild or hot, depending on how you like it.

Kang Seo

Located in a Korean shopping center, Kang Seo is as authentic as can be, catering to a predominantly Korean clientele. The interior with its wooden furniture and décor, and paper lanterns, resembling a typical Korean restaurant The restaurant specializes in hot pots, soups and stews. They also serve a limited choice of bulgogi, spicy pork; galbi, beef short ribs; and the mixed rice bowls known as bibimbap. The two most popular items are sul lung tang, ox bone soup, and galbi tang, beef short rib soup.

Greek Island Grill & Bar

Greek Island Grill & Bar is the place to come for typical Greek food made with fresh ingredients. This spacious and comfortable restaurant is hidden inside a shopping center. The large menu featuring all the Greek favorites has something for everyone. The starters include spanakopita, a spinach and feta pastry or fried calamari. If you’re finding it hard to decide, go for the mezze which offers a selection of starters. For mains, try the kebabs and platters, served with different sides including crispy Greek salad and the highly recommended Greek lemon potatoes.

Suwanee Park Tavern

Suwanee Park Tavern is a traditional up-market restaurant complete with dark-wood interiors and white tablecloths. The menu features a selection of classic burgers and sandwiches choices, as well as steaks and chops. All this is complemented by a generous wine list and some innovative cocktails, including Bubbles & Berries: a blend of citrus vodka, creme de cassis, lemon juice, marinated berries and Prosecco.

Toscana Tratoria

Toscana Tratoria is the destination for Suwanee’s lovers of Italian fare. This friendly, family-owned bistro serves Italian classics, and is good for both work lunches and family dinners. There is a wide choice of salads, as well as pastas and pizzas. If you’re looking for something different, try one of the entrées, ranging from shrimp parmesan to eggplant lasagna. Don’t miss Wine Down Wednesdays which include a tasting of three whites and three reds accompanied by complimentary hors d’oeuvres.

Afghani Kabob House

Family-owned Afghani Kabob House opened in 2015 and has already found many fans. The kebabs are spicy and tender, served with rice and salad. The crisp and huge pita bread is a must-order side dish. At lunch, they have a buffet which means you can try all the options on offer, but it’s also possible to order à la carte, or even grab a take-away. The staff are friendly and warm, with the owners offering guidance on the menu.
