In 1863, Governor Evans built a brick cottage for his family, and purchased, then immediately donated, four blocks of Arapahoe Street to the City of Denver. In 1911, he retained architects to design an eight-story office tower for the Denver Tramway company, which is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places and houses the Hotel Teatro.
