Root Down

Located in the hip historic Highland district, Root Down is unique, as it operates from a converted 1950s service station. The sustainable diner has one of the most interesting experiences in Denver – they grow fresh herbs and harvest vegetables form their roof top patio gardens. Creative dishes include organic date and goat cheese stuffed peppadews. The soups, such as their organic carrot and their red curry or zucchini and poblano, are very popular here.

True Food Kitchen

True Food Kitchen has a wide range of healthy vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options that taste incredible – the concoctions infuse the latest trends in dining with the options that are healthy for your body. Spaghetti squash casserole and edamame dumplings will have some non-vegheads surprised at how tasty healthy can be. However, there are a few meat options on the menu like the grass fed bison burger if you’re inviting a friend who wants meat.

Govinda’s Garden Vegetarian & Vegan Café

Govinda’s offers an exclusively vegan/vegetarian Indian buffet for those who want to get a hefty amount of food for their money. The buffet consists of a treasure trove of breads, organic vegetables and non-GMO tofu, rice and beans. Every week they feature different entree specials, and there are several revolving dinner entrees for their buffet that include spinach lasagna and BBQ tofu. Everything on the menu is strictly vegan, unless stated otherwise.

Pho 96

There are a couple great vegetarian chains in Denver, but if you’re looking for something more exotic for a small price, Pho 96 will meet your hankering for hot soup and vegetables. Using veggie broth instead of ones used with animal byproducts, Pho 96’s serves large bowls filled to the brim with vegetables and tofu or whatever option you choose. For under $20, diners can get two meals and an appetizer. Locals rave about this spot for its many options — meat, vegetarian and vegan– as well as their delicious, fresh ingredients.

WaterCourse Foods

Named in Food & Wine Magazine as one of the best vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the nation, and the healthy comfort food also donates 10 to 15 percent of its Monday night sales to different charities. Although WaterCourse is best known for their undeniably good breakfasts (which are served all day long), but they also serve lunch. Their seitan wings are raved about and their cheese made from cashews, but it’s all so good you wouldn’t even realize that everything served on their extensive menu is 100 percent vegan. Also check out their seasonal, vegetarian cocktails.
