Old Town, located on the north side of the city, is one of Chicago’s most historic neighborhoods – home to some of the city’s older Victorian buildings as well as numerous things to see and do. Here are some can’t-miss places to see while exploring this fascinating area of Chicago.

Second City is considered one of the most popular comedy clubs in the world. It was started by students at the University of Chicago in 1959 and is known for improv comedy. Many famous comedians got their start at Second City, including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and John Belushi, just to name a few. There are often several shows to choose from on a regular basis.

Old Town Pour House

Although it looks like your typical bar on the outside, Old Town Pour House should not be skipped, especially by beer connoisseurs. The bar has 90 craft beers on tap, one of the biggest and best beer selections in the city. Non-beer drinkers will be happy to know that Pour House also has a selection of wine and whiskey, as well as a full menu.

Zanies

Zanies has been providing comedy to the 21+ crowd for 31 years. Located a block from Second City, the club often features up-and-coming comedians, as well as well known comics like Aziz Ansari. It is the third-longest-running comedy club in the United States.

The Fudge Pot

Chocolate lovers will not want to miss The Fudge Pot. This chocolate and candy shop is known for its intricate chocolate creations; everything from the Statue of Liberty to merry-go-rounds have been molded into delicious chocolate, sometimes too pretty to eat.

The Spice House

The Spice House opened in Old Town in 2001 and is the third spice shop run by Patty and Tom Erd. The shop is known for its vast array of spices from all over the world, as well as its own homemade spice mixes. Don’t be surprised if you are drawn to the shop’s scents from a block away.

Can’t make it to the Shedd? While the Old Town Aquarium may be a lot smaller, it still features numerous fresh- and salt-water fish and invertebrates to view and even buy. The aquarium has been a fixture in the Old Town community since 1975 and has a knowledgeable staff.
