Bold hues. Galactic blues. Cosmic reds. MAC’s recent capsule collection with Brooklyn-based Chromat, ushers in summer’s edgiest makeup trend: hologram chic. Chromat’s Becca McCharen-Tran, a CFDA Award finalist, is an innovative designer known for her architectural approach to clothing and dedication to living boldly. In essence, she’s made a name for herself by bucking trends. Now, with her latest endeavor, she’s making them.
The collection, wrapped in bionic 3D printing, a nod to Chromat’s highly structured design aesthetic, features the following items:
Chromatbabe Super Pack Eyeshadow Palette ($32), Augmented Reality Lipstick in Strong Candy Red ($17), Shockvalue Lipstick in Bright Aqua Blue ($17), Technakohl Liner in Metropolis Blue ($17), Pro Longwear Fluidline in Aeros Blue ($17), Zoom Lash Mascara ($18), Glitter in Reflects Turquatic ($22), Brush 263 Small Angle ($20)
Says McCharen-Tran, “Makeup is transformative; it’s a personal revolution in a compact case.We design for a highly creative, unapologetic woman. Someone who isn’t scared by color or bold lines.”
“At Chromat, we don’t subscribe to traditional notions of beauty,” says McCharen-Tran. “We DO, however, focus on highlighting individuality and each body’s structure. When women feel empowered and choose to celebrate themselves and their bodies, that is beautiful.” These ideals are reflected in Chromat’s SS17 Swim Collection, as well as the capsule collection with MAC.
“I love the feeling of spending hours getting ready, trying different ideas, taking bathroom selfies, and then going out and showing my new look to the world, says McCharen-Tran. “That incubation time, when I’m by myself, creating who I want to be in the mirror is so important to my sense of self. I need that experimental time with color and lines to reinforce who I am and who I want to be.”
So, how do you wear the looks in this collection? Pretty much, anyway you want. Because you’re a #ChromatBabe.
The MAC x Chromat capsule collection is available in select MAC stores and on MAC’s website, starting in July.
