There is finally a celebration of natural hair and the internet couldn’t be more on board.

CreativeSoul is a photographic agency out of Atlanta, run by artist husband and wife team Regis and Kahran. The duo has recently put together a truly inspirational photo series entitled Afro Art, which highlights the beauty and spirit of African American girls and their natural hair.

The portraits feature confident young ladies in chic and sophisticated dress flaunting stunning natural hairstyles done by Lachanda Gatson that are truly works of art in and of themselves. The vibe of the images encompasses various international artistic and fashion styles ranging from the baroque to tribal, punk and beyond.

The elegant images emanate a sense of fierce confidence and pride, which is an important message to be spread in terms of celebrating the natural and not feeling societal pressure to conform to white standards of beauty.

Kharan explains of the moving purpose behind the project, ‘We feel that it is so important for kids of color to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media. Unfortunately the lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’ and often forces kids to have low self-esteem.’

Beyond that, the goal is for girls around the world to be impacted by the images, leaving them proud of their uniqueness and excited to showcase it without fear.

The photos were taken across the US in New York, California, Texas and Georgia. Each state became representative of a different theme which the photographers worked with, hence the striking diversity within the series.

It is always a joy to see projects that celebrate beauty of all kinds. Regis and Kharan certainly succeed in this with Afro Art and will hopefully be setting a positive trend globally for all of us to love each other for exactly who we are.
