Also known as Rocky Point, Puerto Peñasco is a popular Mexico beach destination for many Arizona residents. Just over an hour’s drive from the US border, you’ll find sandy beaches lined by waterfront accommodation. Here’s our pick of the best hotels in Puerto Peñasco.

If you live in Phoenix, Tucson or Yuma, you’ve no doubt heard of Puerto Peñasco. On the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California), it’s one of the closest Mexican resorts to the US. With balmy temperatures all year, it’s home to some of the best beaches in the state of Sonora, as well as top whale watching and birdwatching spots. Golf fans will enjoy a round at Las Palomas championship course, while others can take a trip to the volcanic craters at El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve.
