Bogotá and Colombia, have become a hub for art and photography, with the country producing a large number of creative public figures, from authors to photographers, the country has produced them all. Many Colombian photographers and artists have taken the world by storm, gaining recognition and holding exhibitions all over the world. Here are seven from Bogotá you need to check out.
Miguel Gomez
Miguel Gomez is a photographer, visual artist, fine arts photographer, portrait editor and landscape photographer, who was born in Bogotá on March 29, 1974. Gomez studied architecture at the University of Los Andes, and became a professional photographer in 1989. Gomez specialises in street and urban landscapes, as well as working with a large number of magazines in fashion, portrait, architecture, and stills. His work has been featured in the majority of Bogotá’s publications, along with ASOS (London). Miguel is also a photography lecturer and has worked in Bogotá’s Pontificia University Javeriana, among other Universities in Bogotá.
Klaus Fruchtnis
Klaus Fruchtnis is a French-Colombian digital artist, photographer and multimedia producer, born in Bogotá in 1978. Fruchtnis studied visual arts at Bogotá’s Los Andes University, he continued studying at École de Beaux in Paris and in Rennes France. Fruchtnis now works between Paris and Bangkok, his work is based upon cultural, social and political aspects in Colombia. Fruchtnis has held exhibitions in Bogotá, Milan, Montreal, Lima, Paris, Rennes, Moscow, Sydney, Medellin, New York City, Toronto, Mexico and Miami.
Miguel Ángel Rojas
Miguel Ángel Rojas is a photographer from Bogotá, born in 1946. His photographs showcase his experiences, identity, politics, drug traffic, violence, and marginality. Rojas studied at the School of Fine Arts at the University Nacional de Colombia in 1969. In 1973 he produced his most controversial and popular collection, where he secretly photographed gay men within the communities at a time when being gay wasn’t accepted. Rojas has had exhibitions in Mexico, U.S.A., Spain, U.K. and Colombia, the most famous being at London’s Tate Modern, and the Museum of Modern Art Colombia.
Andres Uribe
Andres Uribe is a photographer and filmmaker from Bogotá, Colombia. Uribe strives to take photographs which tell stories of people, in Colombia and other locations around the world. Uribe aims to preserve the best moments or dreams of his subjects.
Juan Mayr Maldonado
Juan Mayr Maldonado was born in Bogotá on May 27, 1952, he is a photographer and environmentalist. Maldonado is currently working in Germany as the Colombian ambassador. Maldonado’s photographs are unique, with many being taken when he lived with the indigenous tribe, Kogi. Located in the Sierra Nevada, while there he photographed the tribes, and used the tribes to create a connection between the countryside and cities. The photographs are being used to help protect and create knowledge of the environment, indigenous communities, to help preserve and return the land back to the natives.

Liliana is a photographer from Bogotá who studied graphic design. Her Instagram page is a huge success and she posts photographs from everyday life, work, friends and travel.
Christian Byfield
Christian Byfield was born in Bogotá; he is a photographer, tour guide, traveler and writer, who quit his professional job in 2013 to “collect smiles around the world.” Byfield has a large social media following, and posts photographs from within Colombia as well as other countries. Byfield’s photographs showcase Colombia’s beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Byfield works with big Colombian brands such as airline Avianca and L.A.T.A.M. He has visited over 63 countries and his photographs have landed him exhibitions in Bogotá, Cartagena and Paris.
