In the Puntarenas canton of Costa Rica, Monteverde is an increasingly popular destination with ecotourists and is renowned as a wildlife refuge, home to hundreds of species of birds, butterflies, plants and trees. The principal village, Santa Elena, has only been populated since 1918. Later, Quakers from Alabama toiled to conserve the land, allocating an area now known as the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. Let us take the strain out of trip planning on our specially curated nine-day Costa Rica adventure, or read on for our pick of the best hotels in Monteverde, all bookable on Culture Trip.
