Mexico City is famed for its tacos, tlacoyos and tortas, but there are also a handful of great burger joints if you are hankering for something a little more American in style. Here’s a list of places that we think you should check out.

Butcher & Sons

Butcher & Sons, a restaurant dedicated to artisan burgers, offers diners the chance to explore variations on a theme. The burgers are all named after rock musicians, for example the ‘Bowie’ or the ‘Zappa‘, and are packed with toppings and condiments. Four types of ketchup, truffle oil chips, a gin and tonic menu and even a pets’ menu are a few of Butcher & Sons’ highlights. Great variety, huge portions and an explosion of flavor are promised at this outstanding restaurant.

The Burger Shack

Classic North American bar food like cheese sticks and chili nachos meet artisanal burgers like The Mexican with quesillo cheese, chorizo beans and guac or Edgar’s with smoked provolone cheese and BBQ sauce. The Burger Shack also offers a long list of craft beer and has a great location for people watching on the Washington Plaza in Colonia Juarez.

Kitchen 6

Restaurant, American

With an incredible list of gourmet burgers, Kitchen 6 is a favorite in central Mexico City for the options of meats, toppings and styles. They have a lamb burger with a tzatziki-type sauce, a pulled pork sandwich, and lots of beef burgers, plus a hefty build-your-own menu. They serve craft beer from all over the world and serve amazing parmesan cheese fries as a side.

We love burgers

One of the most creative burger joints in the city, at We Love Burgers you might find yourself eating a burger on a Krispy Kreme donut or with deep-fried brie on it. Non-beef burgers include a fried shrimp sandwich that’s divine. A gluttonous mix of North American favorites, you can order the French fries topped with bacon, pork belly, shrimp or gauc, but save room for the deep-fried oreos and ice cream. Also on the list are malt milkshakes and homemade apple pie. Wear your eatin’ pants!

Burgerama has a menu of original burger designs from “around the world” — a burger with pasta and bolonese sauce, a burger filled with three cheeses, burgers with hotdogs on top and lots of other crazy inventions. They also have hot dogs and hamburgers made with exotic meats like camel, wild boar or venison and condiments from around the world like German ketchup and Greek mustard.

Be Bops Diner

Restaurant, American

Be Bops Diner transports its customers to the 1950s and the era of rock and roll, welcoming them with two life-size Elvis statues and a bright blue convertible car in the foyer. Posters and pictures of icons such as Marilyn Monroe cover the red walls, and the atmosphere is completed by the lively music, which on Fridays is provided by live be-bop bands or tribute singers. As for its specialty burgers, which have become well-known in the area, there is no beating their classic flavors and large satisfying portions.

Burgers by Buba

Restaurant, American

The chefs of Burgers By Buba are clearly aware of how to make a good burger. Here burgers are simple, but every step is carefully thought about to ensure maximum freshness and flavor. Juicy meat and delicious buns are what make these burgers so spectacularly delicious. Another winning aspect of this restaurant is that from Thursday to Saturday it stays open until 5am, so that even if a craving hits at the most inconvenient of times, Burgers By Buba will be there to serve up a tasty delight.

La Burguesa

Recently opened in Colonia Roma, La Burguesa aims to produce the best burger in town. This small but successful burger joint offers old favorites and exciting new blends of flavors that are only found here, such as La Fuerte, a lamb burger with Camembert. A friendly atmosphere makes it a delight to explore the menu at La Burguesa, they even take personal burger requests. Combine an excellent burger with one of their fresh fruit juices or famous micheladas to get the full La Burguesa experience.
