Often overlooked by visitors in favor of the ever-popular islands of Jamaica and Barbados, the Cayman Islands are truly beautiful, authentically Caribbean and absolutely worth a visit. This British overseas territory is comprised of three islands: Little Cayman, Grand Cayman, and Cayman Brac. The islands are small and easy to explore. Find below Culture Trip’s top must-sees while you’re in Grand Cayman.

Seven Mile Beach

The name speaks for itself: seven miles of white sand, turquoise waters, and pure paradise. The Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach has something for everyone. Some sections of the beach are privately owned by the island’s upmarket hotels, but the majority is open to the public. Grab yourself a sunbed, umbrella and bucket of Caybrew beers on ice and enjoy. The water is refreshing and a great way to cool off from the Caribbean sunshine. If you feel like tearing yourself away from the utter bliss of relaxing and doing nothing, then jet skis and other water sports are available from the local beach boys. Jet skiing is great fun and well worth doing if you feel like adding an hour of adrenaline to your day. Taxis from Georgetown, Grand Cayman’s capital will drop you from the center to the furthest part of the beach for only five to ten US dollars.

Fishing Charter and Snorkelling

Taking to the seas is a great way to experience Grand Cayman and some of its wildlife. Fishing charter boats with Slackem Charters in Georgetown can be rented for a day for a good price if you plan to go in a group. The locals will take you out, tell you how to fish, if you’re a beginner, and ensure you get a Grand Cayman style catch of the day! The sea is full of Mahi, Tuna, and Barracuda. If deep-sea fishing isn’t your thing, you are welcome to put the rods down and just enjoy the ride. Excursions also include snorkelling and diving, allowing you to swim amongst the tropical fish and beautiful reefs. Make sure you pack an underwater camera.

Da Fish Shack in Georgetown

You can feast on fresh seafood, including the catch of the day, lobster, and freshly caught snapper. The restaurant offers a long list of cocktails that you can sip as the sun sets behind you and white sails flutter in the Caribbean sea in front of you.

This waterfront bar is a sun trap and offers great Caribbean cuisine. Feast on seafood and fresh fish until your heart is content, or sample some Caribbean spice with the range of sandwiches and mains. With Jamaica only a stone’s throw away from Grand Cayman, the Jamaican jerk flavor is used by many Caymanian chefs. Try some delicious jerk chicken as you watch the boats and yachts sail by. Rackam’s offer a great happy hour where you can double up on their delicious Mango Piña Coladas.
