The Dominican Republic is the most-visited country in the Caribbean, and most of their tourist attractions are centred around their coastal towns. Here are some of the best coastal towns in the country and what you can expect when you visit them:

Boca Chica

Located about 30 kilometers (about 18.7 miles) outside the capital city of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica provides a great weekend spot for people who live in or are visiting the capital. A large coral reef near the shore allows for the water at the beach to be shallow and extremely calm. Boca Chica also has many restaurants that serve lunch and dinner on the beach itself.

Punta Cana

On the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana’s Bávaro Beach stretches for about 32 kilometers (20 miles). The town also has the largest concentration of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean.

Cabarete

Known as a surf town, Cabarete can be found in the Dominican Republic’s northern coast. Cabarete’s strong winds and big waves make it ideal for extreme-water-sport enthusiasts from all over the world. At night, the local restaurants offer great dining and a lively atmosphere. Cabarete also holds the distinction of being one of the most budget-friendly locations in the entire country.

Wind Surfing

Juan Dolio

45 minutes east of Santo Domingo, Juan Dolio has beaches for miles and calm waves. Split into two, Old Juan Dolio is the less developed but has a few beachfront restaurants and a few small hotels. Meanwhile, the more-developed New Juan Dolio has several beachfront condos, all-inclusive resorts, and several restaurants and cafés.

San Felipe de Puerto Plata

San Felipe de Puerto Plata, also known as Puerto Plata, can be found on the country’s north coast. Well known for its resort-filled beaches, Playa Dorada stands out as a beachfront filled with resorts and an 18-hole golf course.
