More than half of Bahamians call Nassau home, and despite New Providence only being one of the 700 islands, tourists can find a majority of the country’s festivals, restaurants, clubs, and more here. Here are some of the ways to spend 48 hours in The Bahamas‘ capital city

Day 1

Morning: Tru Bahamian Food Tours

The Tru Bahamian Food Tours is a good way for tourists to sample the local cuisine and learn how to make some of the meals. The food tour lasts between three and three and a half hours, and it includes over six different tastings of traditional Bahamian meals such as conch fritters, baked macaroni and cheese, rum cake and Bahamian gelato. Tourists will also have the opportunity to meet local chefs and receive their “Bites of Nassau Recipe Collection.” In addition to tours, they also offer private cooking classes. Simply provide them with contact information, dates of availability, and the number of people in the group. Chefs will then teach you how to make a variety of different local meals.

Afternoon: Dolphins Encounters

Dolphin Encounters allows guests to see and interact with some of the country’s most popular marine wildlife. A marine tour offers the chance to meet and swim with trained dolphins. Visitors can also watch dolphins performing diving tricks, raising and holding their bodies out of the water, and even giving out kisses to tourists. Dolphin Encounters also gives guests the opportunity swim with dolphins, take pictures, feed them, and get a full appreciation for just how smart and friendly they are.

Night: Fish Fry Arawak Cay

A collection of over 30 different restaurants, the restaurants at the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay all specialize in selling some type of local seafood. Some of the foods that can be found include conch salad, conch fritters, and a large variety of fish and crustaceans. Arawak Cay provides an excellent place to learn a lot about the unique food The Bahamas has to offer without having to spend a significant amount of time travelling.

Day 2

Morning: Pirates of Nassau Museum

To start off the day, visit the Pirates of Nassau Museum. With the production of movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, the desire to learn more about piracy has become quite common. The “Golden Age of Piracy” lasted from about 1690 to 1720, and it heavily affected The Bahamas as its capital (Nassau) was home to the largest concentration of pirates of any Caribbean island due to its proximity to important trade ship routes. This museum gives insight into what life was like in the country during this time. Visitors will get to learn how pirates were executed, the type of weapons pirates used and hear about some of the most popular pirate legends such as Blackbeard.

Pirate Ships

Afternoon: Ardastra Gardens

Home to many different animals indigenous to The Bahamas, pigs, rabbits, lemurs, parrots, snakes, and flamingoes are some of the many that can be found at Ardastra Gardens. Every day at 10:30am, 2:15pm and 4pm, they also have a performance called the “Marching Flamingoes” featuring the national bird.

Bahamas National Bird: Pink Flamingo

Night: The Cricket Club Restaurant & Pub

The Cricket Club Restaurant & Pub provides a great atmosphere for sports lovers. It serves a mixture of Bahamian and British foods while live streaming up to four different major sporting events. Open seven days a week from early morning until the last major sporting event has ended, people can meet up with other sports fans, have drinks, and just chill out and have a good time.
