If you’re setting out to conquer the slopes of Whistler, British Columbia, it’s good to start your day with a hearty breakfast. With award-winning chefs serving local Pacific Northwest delicacies and produce, the restaurants in this Canadian resort are dynamic and delicious. So whether you’re looking to energize for a day’s skiing or chasing away a hangover, here’s our pick of the top breakfast spots.

1. Ingrid’s Village Café

Cafe, Canadian

To dine with the local ski team, head to Ingrid’s Village Café at the southern end of the village. Since launching in 1986, Ingrid’s has become an institution thanks to its cozy atmosphere and freshly made delights. If you’ve got time, grab a seat and fill up on the unfussy yet hearty dishes. If you’re itching to ride the ski lifts, Ingrid’s also does a generous selection of breakfast sandwiches.

2. Ecologyst

Hole in the Wall, Canadian

At the back of Ecologyst, a concept store selling eco-friendly goods, you’ll find a particularly trendy café specializing in locally brewed coffees (we suggest the Bows and Arrows lattes) and suitably modern breakfast treats. Opt for the loaded toasts, which are all made from locally sourced ingredients where possible, or try the fluffy sourdough bread from Whistler’s 200 Degrees Bakery.

3. Southside Diner

Diner, Canadian

When a Vancouverite is asked to name their favorite no-fuss breakfast experience, Southside Diner is often the answer. Serving up quirky dishes such as the BELTCH (a bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, cheese and ham sandwich), the restaurant offers a fun yet no-nonsense experience. If you’re looking for an extra Canadian experience, order the breakfast poutine, which comes with plenty of extras to fill you up for the day ahead.

4. Elements Urban Tapas Lounge

Restaurant, American, Canadian, Vegetarian

In the evening, Elements is a sophisticated but casual tapas and wine bar. During the day, it transforms into one of the best breakfast spots in Whistler. Here, brunch is treated as an event. Located in the Summit Lodge Boutique Hotel, the outlet is well known for its eggs benedict. Wash it down with one of their brunch cocktails.

5. Portobello Market + Fresh Bakery

Restaurant, Canadian

At the base of Blackcomb Mountain, Portobello Market + Fresh Bakery offers perfect pastries from award-winning chef Isabel Chung. Light bites such as strudels, cinnamon buns, sugar waffles and steel-cut oats are also available. For a warming meal, opt for a breakfast scrambler bowl. Starting with a base of scrambled eggs, ingredients are thrown on top to create a dish that will certainly set you up for the day.

6. Aura Restaurant at Nita Lake Lodge

Hotel, Lodge

Those with a sweet tooth and a penchant for the perfect photo will adore Nita Lake Lodge’s in-house restaurant, Aura. Sitting on the shores of the lake, this French-inspired restaurant offers dishes that are just as sumptuous as the setting. Ingredients are, where possible, locally sourced. Much comes from the lodge’s rooftop garden, which grows herbs, vegetables and edible flowers.
