Gypsy Tea Room

A fine-dining venue with a unique space for functions, meetings and special occasions, the Gypsy Tea Room is perfect for a group brunch or an intimate dining experience. Try the gypsy salad, served with roasted beets, toasted pine nuts, crumbled goat’s cheese and a sparkling pear vinaigrette, or dive into brunch with breakfast poutine or cinnamon raisin French toast. Come hungry, prepare to leave full.

Bridie Molloy’s

With a welcoming ambience and a traditional pub feel, Bridie Molloy’s doesn’t just serve cold beers. Here you’ll find a delicious menu that includes savory sandwiches such as the BLT, with thick, juicy tomato, crisp lettuce and generous bacon all piled high on freshly toasted bread. Try the French onion soup: a rich red-wine and beef broth simmered with caramelized onions and finished with crispy croutons and melted mozzarella cheese. This is the spot for a social brunch, offering live entertainment throughout the week.

Mallard Cottage

In the quaint fishing hamlet of Quidi Vidi, Mallard Cottage is one of the oldest wooden buildings in St. John’s. It may not be the sexiest of accolades, but you’ll be pleased to know that having been a residence for local fisherfolk and a successful antiques shop, it is now an outstanding restaurant and contender for best brunch spot in the city. The ever-changing menu transitions from molasses-glazed pork belly to chicken crepes or halibut cheeks without missing a beat, and the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and occasionally accompanied by the gentle twang of local musicians’ guitars.

Woodstock Public House

Serving customers since 1927, Woodstock has retained its legacy by providing a fine-dining experience that not only excels in food but in service, as well. The setting is beautiful and the ambiance perfect for a dinner with friends. The all-you-can-eat brunch is a steal, offering breakfast classics as well as turkey dinner options.

Bagel Cafe

Bagel Cafe is a great place to brunch. With signature dishes like Atlantic lobster tail and New Zealand lamb, this is the perfect place to relax with friends and enjoy a great meal. Go for one of the Mexican quesadillas, served with hash browns and salsa, or opt for the Belgian waffles, served with sausage, bacon or ham.

Chinched Restaurant and Deli

Chinched serves up the best in seafood and meats, with options like potato-wrapped cod and Point Leamington suckling pig with cheddar grits, bacon braised greens, apricot compote and a pan-dripping vinaigrette. The menu changes seasonally. You’re bound to leave happy, so make sure this restaurant is on your list when heading out to Sunday brunch.

Oliver’s Restaurant

Oliver’s Restaurant is a gourmet experience. The atmosphere is welcoming and the food comforting. Seafood is their specialty; think seared Atlantic salmon, pan-fried cod and seafood fettuccine. Oliver’s is a must-visit; it’s bound to be your next weekend brunch spot.

The Merchant Tavern

This tavern is an ode to the merchants who, for hundreds of years, called St. John’s and the province home. The restaurant is co-owned by head chef Jeremy Charles, who celebrates local produce through the dishes he creates. Think pulled-pork pancakes drizzled in sticky, sweet maple syrup and confit turkey cakes with a cranberry compote dolloped on top. Although the food steals most of the limelight at this dainty spot, the brunch cocktail menu is equally appealing. Wash your grub down with a Lemon Meringue Tie made with Earl Grey syrup. Request a window seat for views of the harbour.
