The regional dish is enjoyed by people from all walks of life in Montreal; Au Pied de Cochon have presented their own take, however, pioneering a version which is slightly more high-end. The preliminary cheese curds and fries are smothered in a very generous helping of foie gras sauce and garnished with an additional pinch of the delicious paté. It takes quite a liberty with the traditional poutine, but this particular variation has been so well received that Au Pied de Cochon have even started selling their now famous sauce in jars.

Montreal Poutine

It seems only fitting that the most beautiful and historic part of the city should pay homage in some way to its most classic dish. Montreal Poutine is a small and unassuming restaurant in the district, with an upstairs dining area featuring rustic furnishings and decor, promising for a great view of the stone buildings of Old Montreal whilst you indulge in this exquisite culinary staple. Serving a range of meals alongside poutine, their attention to detail and passion for the dish are not to be missed.

Poutines are often laden with smoked meat, bacon, ham and sausage, so it is a rather bold move to offer up a vegan alternative. Aux Vivres is a vegan restaurant on Saint- Laurent that serves up original and extremely healthy dishes and is incredibly popular here in Montreal. Their take on the poutine is only occasionally available as a chef’s daily special item but when it does appear on the menu, it comes very highly recommended.

Garde Manger

Restaurant, Canadian

A delicious, high-end seafood restaurant in the heart of Montreal, Garde Manger has a great atmosphere, with rustic, exposed brick walls, menus written on blackboards and soft, atmospheric lighting. A highlight from their menu is without a doubt the lobster poutine, a traditional poutine with fresh, flavoursome lobster scattered over; a decadent yet hearty affair. The restaurant also has a fully stocked bar, making it the perfect place to sample cocktails alongside this staple Canadian dish.
