Experience the famous Niagara Falls from the Rainbow Bridge or the Maid of the Mist boat. Whether you opt for the Canadian or American side, there’s a pet-friendly hotel ready to welcome you and your dog to Niagara Falls.

More than 14 million eager visitors flock to Niagara Falls, undoubtedly North America’s most famous waterfall, each year. Likened to Las Vegas, with its flashy neon signs and kitsch eateries, the hardest decision you’ll have to make is whether to stay in Niagara Falls, New York (USA) or Niagara Falls, Ontario (Canada). Pets are more than welcome here too – they will especially love the 400-acre (162ha) leafy Niagara Falls State Park.

Reminiscent of 1950s and 1960s roadside inns, the pet-friendly Cadillac Motel oozes old-school charm. Set in the heart of the Canadian Niagara Falls district, the motel is just moments from Skylon Tower and a 15-minute walk from the Niagara Falls viewpoint. Rooms pay homage to the namesake vehicle with walls plastered with cadillac images, the focus point of the otherwise minimalist suites.

2. La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Niagara Falls

Just off the I-190, a short drive from Rainbow International Bridge (which connects the US to Canada), La Quinta Inn & Suites is a prime location for your pet-friendly visit to the Falls. Rooms are light-filled, with vibrant decor, and each come with a microwave for when you need a meal on the go. Breakfast is included and you’ll want to carve out time for a dip in the indoor pool too.

3. The Giacomo, Ascend Hotel Collection

With Niagara State Park a short stroll away, this 1929 art deco landmark makes for a grand option for walking your pooch on the US side of the Falls. The Giacomo is part of the Ascend Hotel Collection; rooms here are lavish with leather-clad furniture, in-room fireplaces and marble-tiled bathrooms. When parched, make a beeline for the Giacomo lounge and take a seat at its expansive granite bar – go on a Tuesday for half-price bottles of wine. Two small pets are allowed in your room too.

Plonked neatly near the Niagara Falls Observation Tower and the Cave of the Winds walkways, Hyatt Place Niagara Falls puts you in the thick of it. Fringed by Niagara Falls State Park, most of the 128 rooms have lush views over the park and skyline. When you need to recharge, the hotel has a fitness center and indoor pool that shouldn’t be overlooked. Bring along up to two pets for an extra charge.

5. Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel

Sitting pretty within a former flour mill dating from 1904, Old Stone Inn is a charming pet-friendly option on the Canadian side of the Falls. The beautifully appointed rooms overlook the private courtyard or pool, but most of your time will likely be spent in the stone-walled Flour Mill Restaurant. A peppercorn candied bacon ‘tree’ and lobster benedict are served for ‘blunch’, plus there’s a charcuterie board and Arctic char on the menu for dinner. An added perk: the hotel will provide a food-and-water bowl for your furry friend.

6. Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa

Equidistant between Niagara Falls and Lake Ontario, Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa is the ideal spot to escape the tourist madness. Rooms are chic, walls clad in white and the light pours in, thanks to bi-fold doors. When you need to unwind, head to the full-service spa for a delightful massage or body wrap. Pets are warmly welcomed for an extra fee.
