It’s important to get a heart-pumping workout, but do you ever find yourself getting bored of the same old gym routine? Or, worse, skipping your workout sessions entirely? It happens to everyone. Fortunately, Toronto is home to a number of dynamic and unique studios that offer so much more than your typical gym experience. From aerial yoga to natural movement training, here are eight of Toronto’s coolest and most unusual studios to capture your interest and get a variety of workouts.

StrengthBox in East York offers a refreshing and unusual approach to fitness. Focusing on natural movement and the development of physical skills, there aren’t any mirrors or memberships at this playground for adults. Instead, there are plenty of weights and kettlebells – as well as a jungle gym. Offering training packages, small group sessions, certifications in aerial strength and workshops in breathwork and cold training, you can always count on an entirely unique workout experience at StrengthBox.

The Uptown Powerstation

Fitness Studio, Gym

As its name implies, The Uptown Powerstation offers an intense series of classes and personal training options. Tucked away on Dufferin in North Toronto, you can choose from a full schedule of classes that promote endurance and strength like Power Core TRX, Power Box, Power Cycle, and Power Heated Hatha, as well as open gym sessions.

Misfit Studio

Misfit Studio promises a “wild physical journey” through a variety of fun-focused Pilates – including reformer Pilates – dance and dynamic movement classes. For example, the “Fusion” class – based on yoga, shaped by Pilates, and inspired by dance – gives you a full-body workout. Located on Ossington just off of Queen West, Misfit also offers massage, physiotherapy and osteopathy services as part of their Wellness Collective.

Spokehaüs

Spokehaüs, located in downtown Toronto, is a haven for cycle enthusiasts. Modeled after the infamous SoulCycle, this is anything but your typical spin class. Blasting energizing music through each expertly choreographed 45-minute session, every Spokehaüs workout offers a high-intensity, low-impact full-body experience that will leave you sweat-soaked and exultant.

MOVE Fitness

Dedicated exclusively to women’s health and wellness, MOVE is a boutique fitness club in Leslieville. There is a wide variety of small group training, personal training, beginner boot camp, expert coaches, and nutritional guidance available. To replenish yourself after a rigorous workout, there is even an organic juice bar on-site.

Orangetheory Fitness

With several locations scattered around the GTA, Orangetheory has got your fitness needs covered. Focusing on monitoring your heart rate and taking its name from the “orange zone,” or the scientifically designated target area that spikes your metabolism, Orangetheory’s motto isn’t “Keep Burning” for nothing. They offer a variety of high-intensity classes.

Núcleo Fitness

Fitness Studio

Another creative fitness studio in Toronto’s East York, Núcleo is defined by its unique combination of Pilates and rowing in a dynamic workout routine that cultivates stamina and endurance. Emphasizing core development and strength in a small-class environment, you can pair your Pilates-focused mat classes with rowing sessions in order to balance the strength and flexibility of all of your muscle groups with a “full-body cardio adventure.”

How about letting your workouts take flight? At Fly Studios on Queen West, you can defy gravity in one of their aerial yoga classes. Try a whole new level of strength and flexibility while also sparking your sense of adventure. Fly also offers reformer Pilates classes, which makes use of a reformer machine to work your entire body in a new way.
