One of the elite addresses in London, Mayfair is home to a glam collection of spa hotels. From a cloud-grazing wellness centre with unbeatable views over Hyde Park to a tucked-away oasis with an inky swimming pool, these spots promise to recharge you for the next round of shopping or night on the town.
Tucked away from the hectic energy of neighbouring streets, this high-end red brick hotel houses a menagerie of wonders. A state-of-the-art spa lies at the heart of the Connaught, the result of a £40m hotel-wide facelift. The wellness centre exudes a sense of Zen with low lighting and swathes of marble. There are five spacious treatment rooms (one double and four single) with separate dressing areas and steam rooms. The spa menu features dozens of treatments catering to different needs, including several to help combat jet lag. If you just fancy a moment of calm, head to the unique black granite spa swimming pool for a dip, before a stint in the crystal steam room.
This famed Art Deco hotel has swagger, and rightly so. It has prime positioning, with Hyde Park on one side and one of the finest shopping districts in London on the other, while the rooms, restaurants and communal spaces flaunt Art Deco splendour with a contemporary edge. This razzmatazz continues through to the spa, with a large crystal chandelier in the entranceway and a sultry turquoise relaxation area. There are nine treatment rooms, and spa aficionados will appreciate the use of Aromatherapy Associates and Carol Joy products. Get a tip-to-toe overhaul, with pedicures, waxing, cleaning facials and sports massages amongst the offerings.
Feel red-carpet ready after a session in the seventh-floor spa at this iconic London hotel. Facials make use of non-invasive technology to lift and smooth the skin, while there’s a body contouring treatment if you’re dreading those figure-hugging threads. Even your hands can get a makeover, with an intense pulsed light treatment which helps to fade sun spots and reduce the pores. If you’re after something a little more traditional, there are signature massages and facials on offer, and why not follow up with a cut and wash in the Hiro Miyoshi salon? Glide down the red-carpeted stairs of the hotel after your spa visit, with swathes of marble, gold leaf and chandeliers adding to that million-dollar feel.
You could park yourself at this grandiose Park Lane property purely for the rooftop spa, as it’s home to some of the best views in town. From your treatment bed, floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to drool over the London skyline, with the Hyde Park treetops forming a green foreground. Even the sauna has a window so you can admire the surroundings. The spa interiors, as with the rest of the hotel, are minimalist and sophisticated, with dark woods and natural stone seamlessly combined. Nothing screams luxury more than the 24-carat-gold body wrap, which has a high concentration of the precious metal designed to give you a more radiant appearance and reduce the signs of ageing.
Doormen will greet you as you sashay into this smart hotel, with a gleaming lobby and glistening chandelier to see you in on the other side. The interiors have a classically elegant yet modern feel, thanks to a 2019 refurbishment. Head to the basement to discover the award-winning spa. Veneered walls, low lighting and a black tiled floor create a calming ambience. There are five treatment rooms and a VIP suite for couples or small group outings. Opt for a full detox with a green tea-infused body wrap or rejuvenate tired eyes with a firming facial. Lotions and potions from British skincare brand Elemis will leave you smelling fragrant and fresh.
Cloak yourself in classic Art Deco glamour at this secluded Mayfair hotel. Original paintings, photographs and architectural features add character to the 1920s property, while modern conveniences make for a very comfortable night’s stay. The sparkling white marble spa and hammam is a real highlight, with two treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool and relaxation area. Take a couple of hours to enjoy the Beaumont Retreat package, which includes a full body massage and an individually tailored facial, with a meze of cakes and glass of champagne to round things out.
Since the 1850s, Claridge’s has been known for the finer things in life, including glamorous design, high-end dining and flawless service. The smart wellness centre continues the theme, sitting on the top floor of the property so you can see Mayfair from a different perspective. As you enjoy a massage, you can look out of the sash windows at the sea of rooftops beyond. Relaxation-inducing products from the renowned French skincare line Sisley are put to use, with massages and facials centred on specific oils and creams.
The swimming pool gets top marks at this upscale Mayfair hotel. It spans 12.5m (41ft) so you can pack in a few laps, and the water is heated so you don’t get a cold shock. Gaze up and catch your reflection thanks to a unique mirrored ceiling. Other features at the underground wellness centre, known as the Club at Park Lane, include a poolside relaxation area, steam room, state-of-the-art gym and treatment rooms. Everything at this hotel spa is perfectly appointed, from marble dressing room countertops to the fluffy robes. The perfect place to burrow yourself for an afternoon.
