Whether you follow a completely meat-free diet, abstain from dairy or simply fancy something different, Leeds is a great city for discovering exciting vegetarian eateries. With everything from Indian street food to gourmet cuisine to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Here are our top six vegetarian restaurants in the city.

Bundobust

Restaurant, Indian, Street Food, Vegetarian

We can’t rave enough about this iconic Leeds eatery. Located close to the train station, the restaurant is only small inside so be prepared for a bit of a wait at peak times – but be assured that it’s worth it. The menu is only small yet has a wide variety of dishes all focused around South Indian street food. If there’s a group of you, opt for their special deal that gives you a taste of everything on the menu for around £60. Whatever you do, make sure you try their Vada Pav, a deliciously spicy mashed potato burger.

Roots & Fruits

Cafe, Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian

Another small spot (it might be worth booking ahead) with mouth-watering vegetarian food, Roots & Fruits has been a favourite of vegetarians in Leeds for 25 years, tucked inside the beautiful Grand Arcade. Choose from a variety of classic dishes such as veggie lasagne, falafel or a variety of vegetarian burgers, alongside a rotating array of specials and the taste medley of the jerk jackfruit. If you’re not feeling particularly peckish, this is also a great spot to pop in for a light bite or a delicious cake and a cup of coffee.

Grub & Grog

Cafe, Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian

Based in Sheaf Street Cafeteria, Grub & Grog is open for breakfast and lunch all week as well as dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, serving an array of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Utilising fresh ingredients and wholesome recipes, their daytime offering is centred on sandwiches, salads and traditional brunch options. The evening menu is usually based around vegan offerings with a choice of meat, fish and vegetarian options.

Humpit

Restaurant, Vegan

If you like hummus, this is the place to go. A constant fixture in the city’s top ten on TripAdvisor, you won’t find better hummus in Leeds. The simple menu offers a variety of hummus bowls with exciting toppings, to be served with fluffy pitta breads to scoop up and get stuck in. There’s also the option of adding falafel and salad. Everything is homemade fresh each day, including their refreshing lemonade.

Global Tribe Café

Coffee Shop, Vegetarian

Tired of picking through menus for the vegetarian options? Global Tribe Café offers a completely vegetarian menu with many of the options being suitable for vegans. Hidden away on Swan Street, the restaurant is tucked away up a flight of stairs, revealing a cosy and intimate space that’s perfect for a casual meal or a special occasion. Expect a variety of creative dishes taking influence from all around the world with Ethiopian, Thai and Mexican dishes among the seasonal offerings.

Hansa’s

Restaurant, Indian, Vegetarian

This Gujarati restaurant is a favourite amongst Leeds vegetarians thanks to their authentic take on West Indian cuisine. Experience on their exciting thalis (perfect for trying an assortment of different curries) or opt for a delicious vegetable or pulse based dish served with a selection of traditional side dishes. If you’re not sure what to pick, opt for the Hansa’s surprise and let the kitchen bring out an array of starters, mains and deserts for you to try for just £20 per person for a party of four.
