Manchester's Coolest Barber Shops

There are plenty of places for men to trim their locks, shave their jawlines and coiffeur their beards in Manchester. The city doesn’t have a hipster reputation for nothing: people care about their appearance here and the city’s many barber shops are there to ensure that not one hair is out of place on that lovingly grown beard. Whether you’re after a handlebar moustache or a simple trim, these are five of the coolest barber shops to put in your address book.

Rubber Soul

Shop

Located in the heart of the Northern Quarter, Rubber Soul is the perfect barber shop for those with a penchant for all things Sixties. Its walls lined with records, sheet music and posters, it’s obvious as soon as you step through the door that this barbershop takes inspiration from its neighbourhood’s long standing history with music. You can even choose the music that is played during your visit – there’s a Spotify playlist or a collection of records to choose from. Traditional cuts and colours are on offer, and the friendly staff are more than happy to give you an era-appropriate look if that’s what you’re after.

P&D Haircutters

Shop

Boasting itself to be ‘the best barber shop in the Northern Quarter’, P&D has some serious competition to fight off but seems to be holding its own as one of the coolest barbers around. While the interiors may be stripped back to basics, the service certainly isn’t, and we can confirm that the three experienced barbers are among the friendliest in Manchester offering top quality banter that makes you feel at ease as they work away. As this is the Northern Quarter, bottles of craft beer are available to sip as they snip.

Mr Beardmore

Recently relocated (it’s now located in Junk’s former premises on Dale Street), Mr Beardmore is a modern-day spin on a traditional barbershop that focuses on both haircuts and wet shaves. This is the place to head to if you like to look dapper with a hipster sensibility, not so much a place for a straight forward trim. Brave the wet shave and let Chad and Luke transform you into a better-looking version of yourself. http://instagram.com/p/BSQUzJCjMQ4/?taken-by=mrbeardmoresbarberhaus

Maclure Barbers

Maclure has been around forever, or so it seems. This Northern Quarter barbershop is beloved of many locals who completely trust the small team to give them their ‘usual’ without having to worry about walking out with a do that doesn’t suit. If you do fancy something a little more experimental, however, they’re also the ideal choice as they take their time crafting masterpieces that even the most hipster individuals will appreciate. This isn’t the place to go for a quick trim; invest your time and you’ll walk out feeling fly. http://instagram.com/p/BDazEjfOUBi/?taken-by=maclurebarbersmcr

RPB

They might not have been around as long as some of the other Northern Quarter barbershops, but RPB are shaking things up with their stark minimalist interior, modern online booking system and (most importantly) excellent cuts. Their staff focus on traditional cuts with a contemporary twist for the modern gent. Our favourite things about this hipster barbers? The uber-cool illustrated map of the Northern Quarter mural filling one of the walls, a full alcohol licence, and a system that ensures that there’s no waiting around – you’re straight on the chair as soon as you walk through the door. http://instagram.com/p/BRrCSkzAlD2/?taken-by=rpb_nq&hl=en
