This Village Inside a Village Inside a Village Inside a Village Will Blow Your Mind
Tucked away in the glorious Cotswold countryside you’ll find quite possibly the most mind-boggling model village, ever. You might need to concentrate for this bit…
The quintessentially Cotswolds village of Bourton-on-the-Water is as picture-perfect as they come – think honey-hued stone buildings, beautiful manicured gardens and the meandering River Windrush running through it. But at the heart of the village lies something a little more unusual – The Model Village.
The old landlord of the village pub, the Old New Inn, wanted to celebrate this beauty, so worked with local craftsmen to build an incredible one-ninth scale replica of the village, which officially opened to the public in 1937.
But this isn’t your bog-standard model village, oh no. The attention to detail here will leave you gobsmacked. You’ll feel like a giant as you wander around the miniature stone houses (all built in Cotswold stone, of course), walk along the river, cross its tiny bridges and peer into the diddy gardens, all decked out with greenhouses and mini trees. You can even listen to the choirs singing in the village churches! But what will really blow your mind is that the model village has its own model village.
And this is where it starts to get all a bit ‘Inception’, as inside this model model village sits a model model model village, and inside this (yes, you’ve guessed it) you’ll find a miniscule model model model model village. Still with us?
You can come and see the village inside a village inside a village inside a village for yourself, but FYI, chances are you won’t bump into Leonardo DiCaprio or Joseph Gordon-Levitt as you wander past the mini herbaceous borders.
