The Best Vegetarian Restaurants and Cafes in Seville
Though not exactly inundated with vegetarian restaurants, Seville is not – as it’s often said to be – a barren wasteland for non-meat eaters. Most places are happy to cater for vegetarians and can provide meat-free dishes if required. The restaurants and cafes we’ve collected below go further, offering vegetarians an extensive range of quality, reasonably priced options from which to choose.
El Paladar
Restaurant, Mediterranean, Spanish, Contemporary
Like many of the best spots for vegetarian food in Seville, El Paladar doesn’t cater exclusively for non meat-eaters but nevertheless offers a separate, extensive menu of meat-free dishes. As well as offering some of the Spanish classics that aren’t off limits for vegetarians – spinach croquetas, salmorejo – more international dishes such as vegetable lasagne and vegetarian cous-cous are also available. Service is super friendly and the small restaurant is situated close to La Alameda de Hércules, one of Sevile’s most fashionable areas.
Restaurante Ecovegetariano Gaia
Consistently rated as one of the top vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Seville, Gaia nestles on a quiet little side street by the Plaza de Armas bus station, well off the beaten track. It’s worth nosing out for the wide selection of vegetarian and vegan food, though – especially its desserts, which have (Seville’s few) non-carnivores returning again and again. Service can be a little slow at times, as its small space can hold a surprising number of guests, but it’ll be worth the wait. In any case, you can enjoy a tasty organic beer from their impressive selection while you wait.
Habanita
Restaurant, Mediterranean, Vegetarian
Specialising in food with a Carribbean twist rather than in solely vegetarian dishes, Habanita nevertheless offers those who have chosen a life without carne plenty to choose from. A separate vegetarian menu features a huge range of dishes, including standards like veggie lasagne and croquetas as well as more unusual dishes such as banana meatballs served in a tomato sauce. Service is consistently rated as good, as are the prices, and the restaurant has a lovely outside terrace. The charming neighbourhood of Alfala is on its doorstep, too.
Veganitessen
Bar, Cafe, Food Kiosk, Vegan
This charming café/kiosk specialises (as its name suggests) on vegan snacks and sweets, all of which are homemade on its modest premises in the middle of the neighbourhood’s market. It is one of the best spots for vegetarians and vegans in the city, with non meat-eating clients raving about the food, in particular the veggie burgers and the tarts. Vegetarians’ consciences can rest assured even further after a meal here, as Veganitessen only uses ecologically-friendly ingredients in its dishes. Definitely one of the quirkiest vegetarian joints in the Andalusian capital.
Gazpacheria Andaluza
Food Kiosk, Spanish, Vegetarian
Gazpacho – a cold tomato soup prepared with the freshest vegetables available – is one delicious Spanish classic that is happily not off-limits for vegetarians. At this delightful little takeaway kiosk you can buy bottles of homemade gazpacho to take with you and enjoy in one of Seville’s many parks on a hot summer day – the perfect light lunch in the soaring heat of the Andalusian capital. Salmorejo is a slightly heavier tomato-and-garlic-based soup (usually it’s thickened up with breadcrumbs) that is traditionally associated with Cordoba. Though it’s commonly topped with cubes of cured ham and boiled egg, a vegetarian version is available here if you fancy something a little more hearty than gazpacho.
La Cacharreria Desayunos
Breakfast is an important meal and social occasion in Spain, with workers often taking a break for it at about 11am (imagine asking for an hour off for breakfast in the UK….) Where better to head when in Seville, then, than a wonderfully-decorated café known for offering one of the best breakfasts in the city? Vegetarians will not be bored or disappointed here: a huge range of fresh juices and organic coffees is available, as are delicious homemade jams and marmalades, pastries and tarts (the carrot cake is incredible). La Cacharreri is small, but it’s worth waiting around for a table as breakfast here will set any vegetarian up for the day.
