6 Best Child-Friendly Restaurants in Mallorca

Thanks to the 300 days of sunshine every year, dining alfresco is common practice in Mallorca, making the experience of eating-out much less daunting with little ones. Many restaurants across the island also have spacious terraces or gardens, often with a play-area attached. What’s more, the Spanish are famously child-friendly, so families with kids are usually made to feel welcome, day or night. Here are six of our favourite eateries most amenable to nippers.

1. Trens Restaurant Temàtic

Restaurant, Spanish

There is no actual play area at Trens Restaurant Temàtic, but the whole restaurant is train themed, with the tables and chairs set up like a railway carriage, and a fully functioning miniature railway running around the room. The food is hearty and traditional, and the weekday menú del día is excellent value and very satisfying. The highlight for kids will be dessert being delivered to the table by miniature train.

2. Santosha

Restaurant, Mediterranean, European

Santosha is a cosy restaurant and cafe with a separate play area for young children. Parents can sit back and enjoy the great coffee while the kids are kept amused with plenty of toys in an adjoining room (still within view) with comfy sofas. The food is fresh, tasty and mostly organic, with many ingredients proudly grown in the owner’s garden. The kids menu is certainly healthier than what’s on offer elsewhere, and the weekend brunches are particularly good.

3. Don Caracol, S’Aranjassa

Restaurant, Spanish

The speciality at Don Caracol, (as the name implies) is snails, but don’t worry, if the very idea gets your kids screaming, they also offer a delicious array of grilled meat, fried fish, and octopus, at very reasonable prices. The big bonus for families, is that there is a decent sized children’s playground, with artificial turf, slides, a small playhouse, and an inflatable castle. There’s also a huge cage full of pretty birds to admire, and the outdoor tables nearest the play area are usually kept aside for families.

4. Mesón C’an Pedro, Genova

Restaurant, Mediterranean, Spanish, Vegetarian

Mesón C’an Pedro is a hugely popular, rustic restaurant, open since 1976, and known for its hearty Mallorquin fare of barbecued fish and suckling pig. The outdoor terrace has a little fenced-in playground with climbing frame, slide and see-saw, so the kids can run around safely while the adults enjoy their food and the beautiful views.

5. El Balcón de María

Restaurant, Italian, American, Spanish

Perched on the edge of the Bay of Santa Ponsa, the views from the terrace at El Balcón de María are lovely. People gather in the evening to enjoy tapas and a cold drink while the sun sets over the water, and families are attracted by the indoor soft play area and trampolines (all of which can be watched via monitors). The kids menu is varied and reasonably priced, and they provide plenty of crayons and paper to help tempt your kids away from the play area when it’s time to eat.

6. Otto Rosso Pizzeria

Restaurant, Italian

The Italian menu at Otto Rosso is varied, but wood-fired pizzas and pasta are the main fare, the kids menu offers small portions plus meal deals that also include dough balls, ice cream and a drink. The indoor playroom is great for rainy days and has a large movie screen, while the generous garden boasts table tennis tables, a basket ball court, and trampolines. The perfect venue for a casual family lunch, with enough to keep kids of all ages entertained, whatever the weather. They even offer a bi-lingual kids club in the summer months.
