Things to Do at Night in Málaga, Spain

Málaga has an amazing nightlife scene, not only because of its bars and venues but also because it’s so connected to the rest of Andalucia. This city attracts an even mix of tourists and Spanish residents who want sleepless nights that end in sea and sunshine.

In typical Andalusian style, nights in Málaga start at 10 with tapas, beer and shots. People then move from terrace to terrace and from beer to cocktails, before heading to the clubs, which open at about 1am. A good night in Málaga is about the movement. You bar-hop until you club-hop until you swim, and then you go home.

This grungy bar plays swing, punk, blues and rock tunes, and hosts weekly live music. The bouncers like to weed out the tourists, so try to speak Spanish while standing in the queue. There is a pool club upstairs where you can smoke, imbibe and dance, and the drinks are cheap. The bar is around the corner from the Plaza de la Merced at Calle Tejón y Rodríguez.

2. Velvet Club Málaga

Bar, Nightclub, Cocktails, Beer

Another massive music venue in Málaga, Velvet reopened its doors in 2019 after a year’s hiatus and has been packed ever since. Somehow managing to hold the atmosphere of a successful bar, club and music venue simultaneously, Velvet closes at 4am. The club is on Calle Convalecientes, opposite Theatro and around the corner from Sala Gold. This corner of Málaga comes alive at night.

3. Theatro Club Málaga

Theatre

Theatro also does live performances, but its offering is more about cabaret than rock. It’s a great place to go if you want a different night out in Málaga. Watch burlesque shows while sipping good cocktails, followed by dancing until 4am. Theatro is also open in the early evening for poetry, flamenco and kitsch movie screenings. Get here by going to Calle Convalecientes, near Velvet.

4. Mañana Cocktail Bar Málaga

Bar, Cocktail Bar, Cocktails, Beer

For the best cocktails in Málaga, head to Mañana Cocktail Bar. It has a friendly atmosphere and edgy music, and the bartenders will make anything you ask for. The place is tiny, but the tables spill out onto the street at night, which are long and warm in Málaga. This bar is on Calle San Juan de Letrán right off Plaza de la Merced.

Bubbles Lounge Club has a more relaxed atmosphere than other clubs in Málaga. It still plays live music, stays open until 4am and loves reggaeton. The cocktails, which can be enjoyed in the comfortable booths, are affordable. Find the bar on Calle Mártires, at the bottom of Calle Convalecientes.
