While Ibiza is certainly first known for its full-on clubbing and dance music, a by-product of this is a thriving coffeeshop scene. There’s an abundance of buzzing cafés, serving great food from healthy fare to fry-ups, and most importantly, excellent – and often locally roasted – coffee. Whether you’re looking for somewhere in your holiday resort, or something a little more local and authentic, it’s always good to know where to go for your daily caffeine fix, so we’ve done the research for you and picked out the best cafés in Ibiza.

The Giri Café

Restaurant, Mediterranean, Fusion

The Giri Café, in the village of San Juan, is all about fresh, healthy, and tasty food using seasonal produce, which is often grown in their own garden. As the name suggests, this café is linked to the popular hotel, The Giri Residence, but it’s a separate business not on the hotel grounds, just a mere stone’s throw away in the village. There are a couple of small tables out front on the street, but the main seating is in the back garden, with laid-back styling, surrounded by sunflowers and vegetable patches. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as excellent locally roasted coffee, a good selection of fresh juices and smoothies, and a large range of alcoholic beverages. The comfy daybeds in the garden are also perfect for a pre-dinner sunset drink.

Plaisir

Cafe, Contemporary, Mediterranean, Healthy

With delicious food, great coffee, good Wi-Fi and refreshingly reasonable prices, Plaisir – in the small village of Santa Gertrudis – is definitely the place to linger over breakfast. Slightly off the main square, this café is a little quieter and less touristy than others nearby, and in the summer months there is often live music in the garden. The owners have a farm where they grow their own produce, so the food here is of excellent quality with a huge range of choices for those with special dietary requirements, including gluten-free breads and many raw vegan options. It’s not often you find somewhere with such tasty, healthy, and interesting menu choices in a nice relaxed setting, so this café is one to remember.

Can Tixedò - Art Café

Cafe, Mediterranean, European, Spanish

Away from the tourist hotspots, on a crossroads in the middle of the Ibizan countryside, yet only a ten-minute drive from San Antonio, Can Tixedò Art Café, is hugely popular with locals and those in the know. As well as serving excellent tapas, coffee, and cocktails, the café is part art gallery, and has ever-changing art exhibitions, along with frequent live music. The very reasonably priced tapas are not your usual fare, with some interesting and innovative dishes on offer, and the café is open all year round (closing on Mondays in the quieter months).

Passion Marina

Cafe, Restaurant, Healthy, Vegetarian, Vegan

Passion is open from 9am to midnight and has delicious selections on the menu all day, serving a particularly good breakfast. The emphasis is on raw, vegetarian, and vegan foods, but meat and fish dishes are available, too, so don’t worry if you can’t live without your bacon at brunch. The healthy and extensive menu includes an impressive selection of smoothies and juices, and most importantly the locally roasted coffee is excellent. This relaxed café is part of a small chain, but this particular branch is right on Ibiza Marina, and is so popular that you will often see the same faces in here day after day.

The Royalty

Restaurant, Mediterranean, Pub Grub

The Royalty Bar & Cafeteria, in the main square of Santa Eulalia, has been there since the 1930s when it was a hotel, and during the Spanish Civil War the bar was frequented by Royalists, while the bar opposite was full of Republicans. These days, it is popular with tourists, but also with locals in the know, and is a great place to sit outside, enjoy a coffee, and watch the world go by. If you’re after something stronger than coffee, and you’re done with breakfast, their range of tapas is excellent, they have a decent wine list, and the dessert menu is extensive, with a particularly good cheesecake. The Royalty is a useful place to know if you are in the area in winter, as it is open all year round.

Musset

Restaurant, Cafe, Healthy

Musset, in the heart of Santa Gertrudis, is a bustling café with outdoor seating, excellent juices, and a great selection of breakfast fare, whether you want the super-healthy, clean-living version, or the full English. It’s pretty much always busy, but if you can get a seat, this is a great café to while away a morning drinking coffee, enjoying a hangover-busting juice, and eating delicious food (and using the Wi-Fi, of course).

Café Sidney

Bar, Pub Grub

With a large outdoor terrace looking out over the yachts in the marina at Santa Eulalia, Café Sidney is in a prime position. Friendly and relaxed, not only is this café a great place to linger over coffee (or their famous Sunday brunch), but they serve great food throughout the day, all week. The menu is huge and has everything from classic Mediterranean dishes, to hamburgers, and a wide range of Asian food, as well as a decent kids’ menu. The service is good, the atmosphere chilled, and Café Sidney is open all year round.

Cappucino Grand Café

Cafe, Mediterranean, European

With a prime location right on the water and with excellent views, Cappuccino (part of the stylish Balearic chain of cafés), is the perfect place to enjoy coffee and breakfast or even a meal later in the day. If you’re an early riser, at certain times of the year, it’s possible to sit on the terrace and enjoy the sunrise with your caffeine fix. As you would expect, they have the coffee down pat, but their breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes are all excellent. This is not the cheapest venue, but the service is fantastic, the setting unbeatable, and best of all, the coffee and food are of great quality.
