Whether you’re on your way home after a hard night throwing shapes, up early for a full day’s sightseeing, or having a slow morning before hitting the beach, a decent breakfast or brunch is essential. Without local knowledge, it’s not always easy to find just what you’re hankering after, so we’ve scored some insider tips to the ten best brunch and breakfast spots on the island Ibiza.

Passion Marina

Passion is open from 9am to midnight and has delicious selections on the menu all day, serving a particularly good breakfast. The emphasis is on raw, vegetarian and vegan foods, but meat dishes are available too, so don’t worry if you can’t live without your bacon at brunch. The breakfast menu is huge, and offers everything from eggs and bacon, smoked salmon, mexican options, pancakes, five different types of avocado toast, to chia porridge, numerous granolas and grains, as well as an extensive range of smoothies and excellent coffee. This relaxed cafe is right on Ibiza Marina, walking distance from Ibiza Town, and is so popular that you will often see the same faces in here day after day.

Plaisir

With delicious food, great coffee, good wi-fi and refreshingly reasonable prices, Plaisir – in the small village of Santa Gertrudis – is definitely the place to linger over breakfast. Slightly off the main square, this cafe is a little quieter and less touristy than others nearby, and in the summer months there is often live music in the garden. The owners have a farm where they grow their own produce, so the food here is of excellent quality with a huge range of choices for those with special dietary requirements, including gluten free breads and many raw vegan options. It’s not often you find somewhere with such tasty, healthy, and interesting menu choices in a nice relaxed setting, so this cafe is one to remember.

Croissant Show

Croissant Show is the place to go for your post-party breakfast, whatever time that may be. In the summer months, this cafe is open from the crack of dawn until late at night, and the larger-than-life owner, Andre, with his Dali-esque moustache, is part of the attraction. The long counter is brimming with French patisserie-style croissants and pastries, and an early morning coffee and cake while sitting on the tables outside makes for some very interesting people watching – with locals starting their day, tourists aimlessly wandering, international DJs re-fuelling after their sets, and clubbers winding down before sleeping off the night before.

Cappuccino Marina

With a prime location right on the water and with excellent views, Cappuccino (part of the stylish Balearic chain of cafes), is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast. As you would expect, they have the coffee down pat, but their pastries, eggs, pancakes and other breakfast dishes are all excellent. This is not the cheapest breakfast venue but the service is fantastic, the setting unbeatable, and best of all, the coffee and food are of great quality.

Cafe Bondi

Cafe Bondi, in San Antonio, has a large terrace area overlooking the port, and serves a wide range of (mainly healthy and organic) breakfasts, with plenty of vegetarian options. Smoothies and juices are served in jam-jar style glasses and they have a decent selection of coffees and teas. The crepes are popular, as are the full English breakfasts for those who’ve been up all night, but for those who are looking for something a little more healthy and restorative, there are also numerous homemade granolas, superfood breakfast bowls, and fresh fruit jars.

Charlotte Cafe

The breakfast options at Charlotte are simple but tasty, with the menu divided into ‘sweet’ or ‘salty’ sections. There are no eggs on the menu and the savoury offerings are all fairly traditional toasts with tomato, various types of ham, cheese, smoked salmon or tuna. The sweet section involves more toast (with jam or marmalade this time), or croissants stuffed with Nutella. For a more health conscious breakfast they also offer yoghurt, fresh fruit and muesli.

Musset

Musset, in the heart of Santa Gertrudis, is a bustling cafe with outdoor seating, excellent juices and a great selection of breakfast fare, whether you want the super-healthy, clean-living version, or the full English. It’s pretty much always busy, but if you can get a seat, this is a great cafe to while away a morning drinking coffee, enjoying a hangover-busting juice, and eating delicious food (and using the wi-fi of course).

Hostal Parque

This relaxed cafe, outside of the Hostal Parque budget hotel, is a great spot for people watching over breakfast. They offer a fairly wide range of breakfasts, as well as sandwiches, salads and desserts, with a fairly decent juice menu. The large terrace outside has armchair-style high-back wicker chairs, perfect for lingering in and readying yourself for the day ahead. The prices are not too bad either.

Savannah

Located on the famous Sunset Strip, Savannah is a sister bar to Cafe Mambo. The views are stunning from the seafront terrace of this relaxed bar, and their ‘Breakfast Club’ menu runs from 11am to 5pm, so you can roll out of bed late in the day and still enjoy a full English. There is something for everyone on the menu, from healthy acai bowls and smoothies, to fry-ups , sausage sandwiches, and smoked salmon bagels, and if you feel like getting straight back on the booze, you can do that too. Great service, great ambience and great food.

El Chiringuito

El Chiringuito, on one of Ibiza’s stunning beaches, Es Cavallet, serves the full range of breakfast items, with extensive menus for eggs, toasts, pancakes, smoothies, juices and other items. The food is excellent, the service just as good, and the setting sublime, all in a laid-back, chi-chi beach club environment. The only downside to brunching here is that the breakfast menu only runs until noon. If getting out of bed before lunchtime was a struggle, at least here you can sleep off your brunch feast (and last night’s excess) on a nice comfy sun-lounger, until you’re ready for a hair of the dog and to start all over again.
