The small medieval city of Girona may not have the famous buzzing nightlife of nearby Barcelona, but it still has its fair share of great venues, from bars with live music to late-night clubs and swish cocktail lounges. Here’s our round-up of the best nightlife Girona has to offer.

Sunset Jazz Club

Girona’s only jazz club and one of the city’s best live music venues, the Sunset Jazz Club is a cosy venue for listening, dancing or drinking with friends. As well as various types of jazz, they also host bands playing funk, soul, blues, folk, and even tango.

Lola Cafè

Hidden down the cobbled streets of Girona’s old Jewish Quarter you’ll find Lola Cafè, the headquarters of Girona’s rumba scene. With its mix of modern and baroque-style decor, the café hosts live performances on certain nights of the week and offers a fun environment with plenty of dancing and delicious cocktails.

Sala la Mirona

Girona’s main venue for large-scale concerts, Sala la Mirona has hosted some of the best bands around. You’ll see everything here from local rock groups to DJ parties and Led Zeppelin tribute bands.

Porta Bellini

Porta Bellini is an elegant homage to the famous Italian cocktail, the Bellini – made from Prosecco and peach juice – replete with stunning chandeliers and a luxurious atmosphere. They also serve an excellent array of gin and tonic variations and other cocktails which you can enjoy inside or out in its lovely terrace area. Resident DJs play a good mix of old pop classics and modern tunes.

One Girona

A flashy urban nightclub and sushi bar all rolled into one, One Girona is a stylish option for dining, dancing and drinking. With exposed brick walls and metal pipes, it gives off an industrial chic vibe and offers a vast array of inventive cocktails and delectable sushi plates. Guest and resident DJs play a good range of tunes to get you out on the dance floor.

Lux

A discotheque and pub in one, Lux is one of the most popular nightlife venues in the city – particularly with the student crowd. Its vibrant atmosphere is only enhanced by all the latest hits blasting from its sound system. Come on a Thursday night if you really want to find out what Lux is all about.

Casino Girona

Pub, Pub Grub, Wine, Beer, Cocktails, Spanish

Not a casino at all but a swish cocktail bar, Casino Gironafeatures baroque-style mouldings and old-fashioned candle holders and makes for an atmospheric night out. Outside there’s more of a tropical vibe going on, with a heated terrace fringed by palm trees. Thursdays are the most popular nights here, especially with the resident student population.

Nou Platea

Housed in the old Albéniz Theatre, Nou Platea is one of the most unique and iconic nightspots in the city. A huge event space hosting concerts, a bar, workshops, social events and shows, this is the place to come for every occasion. Thursday is student night – featuring all the best dance rhythms – while Fridays are for everyone with the resident DJ playing all the latest Top 40 tunes. Saturday, meanwhile, is deep house night.
