The Catalan capital has a reputation for having one of the best electronic music scenes in Europe, with world-famous festivals such as Sonár attracting some of the biggest DJs around. If you’re in Barcelona and looking to party until the early hours, check out these places for some of the best after-parties in town.

1. Macarena

The Macarena is renowned for being one of the smallest clubs in Barcelona and proof that size is not everything as the venue regularly attracts top electronic and techno DJs from across Europe. It’s small size creates a friendly, intimate atmosphere as you’re never more than a few meters away from the DJ booth, which is placed in the center of the dance-floor. The club is located down a small alley-way in the heart of the Gothic quarter so be sure to be quiet on your way in and out, if you don’t want to rile the bouncer.

Open until: 6am at weekends

2. MOOG

Nightclub, Spanish

Something of a legend on the clubbing scene, The Moog is where techno music was introduced to Barcelona back in the late eighties and has since become an electronic music institution. The club is open seven days a week with line-ups of some of the best DJs from the world of techno, house and electro. You’ll have to be prepared to queue at weekends as the club doesn’t open until midnight and everyone knows that this is one of the best places to party late in the centre of town.

Open until: 5am at weekends.

3. Marula Café

Nightclub, Cafe, Spanish

Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, Marula Café is a laid-back late-night music venue and nightclub which plays a mix of music including house, hip-hop and disco. The crowd is made up of tourists and locals who appreciate the upbeat music and friendly atmosphere – not something that can be said of every club in this part of town. The club is open until late every night of the week and there’s usually a performance followed by a DJ session later on.

Open until: 5am at weekends

4. Arena Sala Madre

Located up-town in the Eixample district, Arena Sala Madre is a gay- and hetero-friendly late-night bar and club which attracts a truly diverse crowd. The music is a mixture of electro, dance and house most nights of the week, although expect to find a strip-tease if you turn up on Mondays. The atmosphere is fun, friendly and laid-back with a mostly local crowd looking to have fun into the early hours.

Open until: 6am at weekends.

The Sidecar Factory Club – known as simply ‘Sidecar’ – has been a staple of Barcelona’s music scene since the early eighties and is best known for offering an alternative to mainstream music. There are regular performances from local and international bands, as well as DJ sessions nearly every night of the week. This is one of the best places to go for indie music in Barcelona but you can also expect to hear rock, garage or funk.

Open until: 6am at weekends

6. Magic

If you’re a fan of rock music then this is the place for a late-night session in Barcelona. Magic is the self-proclaimed ‘rock club par excellence’ playing nothing but rock classics from the nineties onwards. The atmosphere here is decidedly different to that which you might find in the city’s many electro and techno clubs, while the crowd is usually a fun, friendly mix of locals and tourists. The venue is only open Thursdays through to Saturdays and guarantees a good laugh if you’re looking for epic rock ballads to sing-along to.

Open until: 6am.
