The coastal Basque city of San Sebastián is better known for its culinary scene than its musical one, yet that doesn’t mean that it’s not home to some great live music venues, showcasing everything from rock to jazz and Latin. Here are the best places to check out on your next visit.

Le Bukowski

One of the most popular and oldest nightlife venues in San Sebastián, Le Bukowski has a vibrant atmosphere and hosts DJs, as well as concerts by up-and-coming bands. Whatever type of music you’re into, they’re bound to play it here, from rock and funk to soul and electronica. There’s a bar and a large dance floor – perfect for boogieing the night away.

One of the most iconic San Sebastián nightlife venues, Komplot has been going strong for years and isn’t going to stop any time soon. Part pub, part concert hall and part discotheque, there’s something here for everyone. The club hosts both live gigs and DJ sets, and also has themed music nights, such as Latin.

Altxerri Bar & Jazz

Altxerri Bar & Jazz

Altxerri lies at the heart of the Basque jazz scene and has been around for more than 20 years. An underground, dimly lit basement-style jazz club, it plays host to both international and local artists, and has been influential in shaping Basque jazz talent.

Etxekalte Jazz Club

Etxekalte is the place for those who want to stay out late – or early in the morning – staying open until 4am on weekdays and 5am on Fridays and Saturdays. Upstairs you’ll find a plush bar where you can enjoy anything from cocktails to coffee. Downstairs, however, is home to a dimly lit, often packed club with live music from bands or resident DJs.

DOKA

The Donostiako Kafe Antzokia, or San Sebastián Cafe Theatre, is both a cultural centre and a happening nightlife venue. The centre was created by a group of eight friends, all locals from San Sebastián, who wanted to create an alternative artistic space in the city. Today, it showcases everything from theatre to Basque-language events, poetry readings and, of course, concerts. On the weekends, it turns into a lively club.

Eiger Edaritegia

There’s no better place for rock fans in San Sebastián than Eiger Edaritegia – a small hangout decorated with old music posters, and offering good tunes and good beer. Besides the hard rock concerts and electric guitar jams, it also hosts local DJs.

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
