The Spanish city of Vigo is located on the country’s western Atlantic coast in the region of Galicia. It has a strong maritime heritage and is known for its excellent seafood. It is also located within easy reach of some of the best beaches in the region. Here’s our pick of the best hotels in Vigo, Spain.
This five-star haven is designed in an avant-garde fashion and its luxury spa boasts views of the Vigo river. A range of suites means you are spoilt of choice. The Alameda has large windows, silk spreads and a balcony with views over Plaza de la Alameda de Vigo. The Silver Master is a cosy alternative with warm colours along with the customary contemporary design. The restaurant sources seasonal ingredients which can be enjoyed on the tasting menu.
Vigo’s AC Hotel Palacio Universal is in a prime location set just back from the marina. An important, historical building during the late 19th century, today it serves visitors wanting to explore the old town and chill out at the beach. The rooms are contemporary and chic with most offering views of the sea. The facade of the hotel is striking with its stone walls and iron balconies giving an impression of granduer. The warm and cosy AC Lounge is a great place to rest your feet after a day’s sightseeing. In the mornings, you can enjoy an elaborate buffet – just as you would expect at a luxury hotel like this.
This neo-classically designed building is bright and elegant inside. It’s located in the commercial district of Vigo, a short walk to the Royal Marina and historic old town. Over 100 rooms, and loft suits with curved ceilings and jacuzzis, are housed in this impressive, early 1900s building. It was designed by a French architect, Michel Pacewicz on the request of a local businessman. Watch out for the expansive buffet breakfast using Galicia sourced produce. The onsite restaurant serves freshly caught fish and succulent meats daily.
Each of this waterside hotel’s 91 rooms is fitted with a whirlpool bath. The Sercotel Bahía de Vigo juts out above the Vigo bay with many rooms looking onto the fishing boats and yachts below. The rooms are simple but elegant, and many feature large panoramic windows to make the most of the view. The hotel’s Pura&Concha restaurant serves traditional Galician seafood dishes combined with seasonal ingredients.
Hosting under 30 rooms, this is a more intimate hotel. One of Hotel Agua de Mar’s highlights is the Cassiopeia Terrace – perfect for sunbathing, taking a dip in the jacuzzi and cooling down with a drink. You can also try the cooler garden terrace with a trickling fountain if you are really feeling zen. Rooms make the most of sunlight during the day and Feng Shui techniques create simple, yet effective surrounds. Bonuses of the Superior Deluxe rooms include your own terrace with sun beds so you can relax in peace.
Walk into the lobby of this fashionable hotel and you will think you’ve entered a showroom. Hotel Inffinit Vigo is located in the cultural and commercial district of Vigo and suites boast terraces to relax and watch the life below. This hotel also features a cosy cafe where you can mix with locals, as it’s open to the public. Suites also have a reasonable space for meetings of small groups and its three function rooms offer soundproofing and high speed wifi.
This is the only five-star hotel in Vigo with its own beach. The interior design merges contemporary and antique influences together seamlessly. Each of the converted Galician country house’s 54 rooms are decorated individually and include marble bathrooms. The stone-built country house is spectacular and could be compared to a castle with its external stone carvings and features. Striking chandeliers and interesting lighting illuminate the rooms and grounds to spectacular effect. All the rooms come with a hydromassage bath and some have great views of the landscape and Vigo River. The spa includes a sauna, hammam, indoor pool and gym.
