There’s nothing quite like cooling off with a dip in the pool on a sweltering summer’s day. And the island of Menorca certainly has plenty of both. But which hotels have the best swimming pools? We dipped more than our toe into the not-so-choppy waters and came up with this selection.

Set overlooking Menorca’s gorgeous Cala Galdana, this swish adults-only hotel also boasts some spectacular views from its fabulous two-tier rooftop infinity pool. There’s also a poolside bar up there, serving expertly mixed cocktails and freshly made smoothies. Artiem Audax also features an impressive spa, with one of the largest circuit pools on the island, together with other top-notch relaxation facilities.

This five-star property also has everything you’d expect from a high-end resort hotel, especially in the pool department. The main swimming pool is hands-down one of the most impressive on the island, comprising a series of interconnected pools with kids’ sections, a swim-up bar, and views over the Mediterranean. There are also another two pools higher up the hill, plus a heated indoor pool with jacuzzi.

This quiet, low-rise property is built around a huge lagoon-style pool with swan-neck water jets and a sloped, zero-entry section. Certainly a contender for the largest swimming pool on the island, it is also one of the more peaceful thanks to the hotel’s child-free environment (and generally more mature clientele). While there are no sea views or spa, guests can also luxuriate in the heated poolside tub or on one of the many loungers skirting the pool.

Melia Cala Galdana

Set into limestone cliffs overlooking the stunning turquoise waters of Cala Galdana bay, the setting of this upscale hotel is certainly enough to take your breath away. While it’s far from the largest pool on the island, the exclusive, adults-only pool overlooks the gorgeous cove making it a wonderful place to cool off in while soaking up the vistas.

Grupotel Playa Club

This upscale all-apartment complex is located in the Son Xoriguer development in the southwest corner of the island. As well as plenty of family-friendly leisure facilities, the hotel features a huge swimming pool, with a gentle slope entry point at one end and lagoon-style curves. Together with a poolside splash pool for kids, there’s also an adults-only swimming pool and spa zone for some peace and quiet away from the little ones.

This huge family-friendly hotel has an equally sizeable lagoon-style swimming pool to match, complete with kids’ section and poolside bar terrace. A neighbouring tower of the hotel means it is partly shaded in the morning, though there’s a second swimming pool where most of the animation activities take place. Also if you tire of the pools, you’re just steps away from the beautiful Son Bou beach – the longest stretch of sand on the island.

An adults-only option, this high-end hotel oozes luxury with colonial-style architecture and impressive collection of modern art. One of only a handful of five-star hotels on the island, this boutique property features a particularly deluxe spa and – most importantly – a lovely sunny, semi-circular swimming pool.
