Most know that the island of Mallorca is no stranger to the occasional party. And what better way to get in the mood than a cocktail or two? Whether you want to rub shoulders with the yacht set over a Bellini in Port Portals or bump booties with a Black Russian in Magaluf, here’s our guide to the best cocktail bars on this lively Balearic isle.

Brassclub

Channeling the spirit (pun intended) of vintage Manhattan via Madrid, the Brassclub cocktail bar has established itself as one of the best on the island. You’ll find the owner Rafa Martín – and one time cocktail champion of Spain – mixing up some outrageously good signature favourites together with seriously inventive originals. Over 3,000 bottles form an undulating sculpture overhead, with padded walls and fancy lamps adding to this quirky-yet-handsome space. Regular sushi and cocktail evenings also supplement an excellent tapas menu.

LAB bar

Try as you might, you won’t find any cocktail menu at this bar. As soon as you step inside a waitress or bartender grill you on whatever cocktail you fancy, from tried-and-tested classics to more obscure creations. Set in trendy Santa Catalina, vintage London-inspired interiors set the tone while a choice of over 250 spirits and liqueurs (including 45 gins) help fuel the fun and friendly atmosphere. The place is also a cocktail academy, so you can sharpen your skills with a mixology masterclass.

U Gallet

Cocktail Bar, Spanish

Located in the charming town of Pollensa, U Gallet certainly veers from the swish and stylish interiors you’d expect from a great cocktail bar, with rustic wood beams and exposed stone walls. But don’t let that put you off, the expertly-prepared cocktails are top-notch, and stuffed with fruit and herbs from the local market. Expect a chilled and welcoming vibe inside, or sip an outstanding Mojito on their alfresco terrace. There’s also a good choice of tapas and pintxos to line the stomach while you drink.

BAR ABACO

If you’re after a spot of classical decadence, head to the legendary Bar Abaco in the La Lonja area. The stunning building and courtyard are strewn with antiques and dramatic floral bouquets, and famously overflows with mountains of various colourful fruits. Cocktails are expensive but delicious – and pack a punch – and the Cava and Champagne list is extensive.

Ginbo Cocktail Bar

Cocktail Bar, Bar, Spanish

Winners of the national cocktail bar fair (FIBAR) in 2016, Ginbo has long been considered the finest spot among locals to indulge in a cocktail. By day drinkers can occupy its alfresco terrace overlooking a palm-fringed paseo on the edge of the Old Town, or by night join the buzzy crowds inside its gorgeous old-school bar. There’s at least 300-odd tipples to choose from, plus some of the best Gin & Tonics you’ll find on the island.

Capricho Bar

Cocktail Bar, Bar, Spanish

Located in the centre of swanky Port Portals, Capricho Bar is particularly popular with those who come ashore from their luxury yachts docked in the nearby marina. The result is this upmarket drinkery with bowler and top hats hanging, acting as tongue-in-cheek references to its monied vibe. There’s a wide selection of immaculately-prepared cocktails, some with Mediterranean influences and plenty of traditional Spanish gins. You can watch the boats bobbing on the water from the outdoor terrace to the throb of regular live DJ sessions, and the tapas menu is excellent.

Garonda Bar

Cocktail Bar, Spanish

The swish Garonda Bar is housed in the five-star Salt Hotel positioned overlooking the beachfront promenade that runs the length of the Bay of Palma. As well as fabulous elevated views over the water, the setting makes for the perfect spot for a quality cocktail while the sun is sinking over the horizon. Open to the public as well as hotel residents, the atmosphere is suitably upscale with a choice of two restaurants on-site if you get peckish.

Stereo Bar Magaluf

Cocktail Bar, Spanish

While it’s fair to say many of the bars along Magaluf’s infamous strip churn out some pretty terrible cocktails, Stereo Bar is different. There’s still the full-on, up-for-it vibe that draws the hoards to this party resort, but accompanied by some surprisingly decent cocktails. Cocktail masterclasses are also available and a popular activities with stag and hen parties.
