With its volcanic peaks, lunar landscapes and dramatic sweeping shoreline, Lanzarote is a geographical marvel. Thanks to visionary local artist, César Manrique, this Canary Island stands out for his superb architectural legacy, too. Add some lively resorts, perennial sunshine and world-class windsurfing, and it’s no wonder it’s a top travel hotspot. If you’re keen to stay in a typical Lanzarote-style villa – characterised by whitewashed cube-like architecture studded with volcanic rock – you could pick any one of these fabulous properties. They’re located in and around the Haría region at the northern end of the island, so within easy reach of the César Manrique House Museum and the Playa La Garita black-sand beach. Ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, they have either access to the main pool or their own private one.

These villas are part of the Hyde Park Lane resort in the quiet Los Pocillos neighbourhood of Puerto del Carmen. The two- and three-bedroom options sleep groups of up to five and seven people. Whether you prefer lounging by the pool or you’re more of a beach bum, you’ll have both just steps away at these pads near Las Cucharas Beach. The one-bedroom apartments sleep up to four, with an extra double bed in the lounge, as well having a modern kitchen if you’re thinking of catering for yourself. These holiday apartments are set in a small whitewashed complex just a short stroll from the yellow sand of Playa de las Cucharas on the Costa Teguise. The one and two-bedrooms apartments accommodate couples and families of up to five people and all have lounge-kitchen areas for self catering. You can upgrade if you’d prefer swish contemporary decor and furnishings and more modern bathrooms with walk-in rainfall showers. Located in a quiet residential neighbourhood in the Playa Blanca resort, this two-bedroom apartment is perfect for families of four. Interiors are livened up with splashes of colour, including in the well-equipped kitchen and lounge space. If you’d rather eat out, the town’s pretty beachfront promenade, lined with numerous restaurants, is a five-minute walk away. The larger Playa Dorada is also within an easy stroll, 10 minutes on foot.

6. Waterworld in Puerto del Carmen

These one- and two-bedroom apartments are part of the El Dorado holiday complex, one of the first built in Puerto del Carmen. Decor is traditional in style, with plush striped fabrics and antique-style furniture. Kitchenettes allow for simple self-catering plus all apartments have outside space – much of it with sea views. The beach is a short stroll away but if you’d rather not get sandy, there are two swimming pools onsite, including one for the little ones.

With its sharp monochrome colour scheme and swish contemporary furnishings, this one-bedroom apartment feels bang up to date. It sleeps up to three guests and there’s an open-plan kitchen-lounge area that opens onto a furnished balcony. A bright modern bathroom also features a walk-in shower. If you’re planning on spending as much time as possible on the beach, Apartamentos Club Pocillos could be just what you’re after. The apartments are part of a complex situated across the road from the huge sweeping Playa de los Pocillos, so lots of them have sea views. They sleep between three and five people in one- or two-bedroom units, with functional kitchenettes and lounges to help you feel right at home.

Las Casitas is a whitewashed complex in Playa Blanca resort made up of small bungalows, sleeping between two and six guests. Decor is colourful and homely, and all bungalows come with cooking and lounging areas. You can also sizzle some sausages on the patio barbecue. Dorada and Flamingo beaches are a 15-minutes walk away, but most choose to spend time by the resort’s large heated swimming pool with sun beds and poolside bar.

10. Cosy apartment by the sea


This one-bedroom duplex apartment is located in Punta Mujeres, close to the northern tip of the island. Inside it’s bright and comfortable and can sleep three. There’s a small kitchen and colourful lounge area, as well as a cosy bedroom. The standout feature, however, is the large wrap-around terrace with mesmerising views out towards the rocks and ocean. You could easily spend hours each day relaxing here.

11. Sea deck


This delightful one-bedroom apartment is located in the town of Costa Teguise on the south coast of the island. The interior is simple and cosy, but it’s the outside that really makes this property special. It features a large terrace, with a dining area and sun loungers, over the ocean. Here, you’ll wake up to the sound of the waves beneath your bedroom window and enjoy breakfast while overlooking the shore. There’s also a fully-equipped kitchen and cosy lounge area.

12. Amazing sea view with huge garden


This nature lover’s airbnb is just five minutes from the northern beaches of Lanzarote, inside the natural reserve of La Corona. The house itself is set on the side of a volcano and is made from natural stone and wood. Inside it’s spacious and contemporary, with elements of the natural world in the plants and stones. It has two double beds, as well as a kitchen and dining area. The highlight is the garden filled with fruit trees and offering amazing sea and mountain views.

Located in the village of Masdache, close to the Cueva de los Naturalistas natural park, this cute little airbnb is a small white-washed villa set in a lunar-like volcanic landscape. Even though it’s located in the centre of the island, beaches north and south of it are about a 20-minute drive away. The villa can sleep two guests and has one double bedroom, so it’s ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway. It also has a private pool.
