The Canary Islands may be better known as party or package holiday islands, rather than for their luxury and relaxation, but head to Gran Canaria and you’ll find plenty of both. Framed by rocky, volcanic peaks and wide sweeps of golden, sandy beaches, many of the hotels here have dedicated health and wellness areas, with some of Europe’s best and biggest spas and thalassotherapy centres. Here are Gran Canaria’s best spa hotels – bookable on Culture Trip.

1. Seaside Palm Beach

Sitting right in front of Maspalomas Beach, Seaside Palm Beach was the first member of Design Hotels in the Canary Islands. Its range of 1970s-inspired rooms were designed by the famous interior designer Alberto Pinto, and are painted in bright, bold colors with retro style furniture and fittings. Tucked away in the tropical gardens you’ll find the spa, offering a wide selection of massages and treatments, from aromatherapy and serum therapy, to ozone therapy and manicures and pedicures. There are also two thalassotherapy swimming pools, where you can relax and reap the benefits of the sea, before drying out in the sauna.

2. Sheraton Salobre Gran Canaria Golf Resort

The five-star Sheraton Salobre is one of the few spa hotels in Gran Canaria not on the beachfront. Instead, it sits high up in the rocky, volcanic mountains. Spread out across 11 levels, it seems to blend into the landscape and offers pools on almost every level, as well as a range of bars and restaurants. On the top level, a river runs around cacti plants and day beds, and in the Aloe Spa you can unwind with treatments and massages. The excellent spa also features therapeutic jets, swan-neck waterfalls and bubble beds, with views out across the hotel’s 18-hole golf course.

3. Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa

The Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa is located just minutes away from the beach in Puerto de Mogán. Dubbed ‘Little Venice,’ it’s surrounded by the Mogán Valley. Inside it’s more like a small village than just a hotel, with various accommodation complexes, gardens, restaurants, bars and of course a spa. The Inagua Spa may be small, but it has everything you would expect, from bubble beds to cold dips, a sauna, steam bath and themed showers. The best part however, is the outdoor spa area, with warming foot baths and hot tubs to relax in while admiring the tropical gardens around you.

5. Gloria Palace San Agustín

Spa Hotel, Hotel

Just up the coast from Maspalomas, about a 15-minute walk from San Agustín Beach, sits the Gloria Palace San Agustín. Like its sister hotel, the Gran Palace Amadores, it sits high up on a clifftop and offers stunning ocean views. This four-star property also features a large spa area, with 7,000 square meters of thalassotherapy facilities, including both fitness and dynamic pools. In addition to the spa area, you’ll find three restaurants and numerous bars and terraces.

6. Bohemia Suites & Spa

This chic, five-star Bohemia Suites & Spa is situated across the sand dunes from Seaside Palm Beach, near Playa del Inglés. It’s a sophisticated hotel, created for adults only and offers trendy design and plenty of facilities. One of its main draws is the Siam Spa, an Asian-inspired wellness center where you can enjoy Thai massages, Balinese treatments and a luxury hammam.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
