8 Off Sonár Events Not To Miss This Week In Barcelona
As each year when Sónar Music Festival takes place, some of the world’s best DJs from across the electronic music scene make their way to the city for one of the craziest weeks in Barcelona. But the fun doesn’t all just take place at the festival itself; the events organized in clubs and bars across the city, what’s known as “Off Sónar,” attract just as many big names and eager party goers. Here’s our guide to what not to miss during Off Sónar week 2016.
Tuesday June 14th
1605 Showcase
Brought to you by Slovenian-based techno and techno-house label 1605 (pronounced ‘sixteen-o five’), this is a sure-fire way to kick-start the week and get yourself in the mood for some serious partying. The event is taking place at La Terraza, the open-air club located in the Poble Espanyol model village, with a techno-loaded lineup including UMEK, Pig & Dan and Raul Mezcolanza.
Wednesday June 15th
Ommseries Week 2016 presents Christian Smith and Friends
Anyone with an ear to the techno music scene will have heard of the Swedish-based DJ and producer Christian Smith, and this time, he’s brought some of his favorite DJs with him for a special back-to-back session with Monika Kruse, also featuring Nick Curly and dubspeeka. Thursday June 16th
IR & Bloc present Detroit Love
Hailing from all the way across the Atlantic, IR & Bloc bring you some of the biggest names from the original Detroit techno scene, including Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, and Robert Hood. Widely believed to be the birthplace of techno music, Detroit was home to some of the most influential and groundbreaking DJs throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Don’t miss this chance to hear some of the biggest legends of the time drop the beat at the Monastery in Poble Espanyol.

Clap Your Hands Boat Party
All aboard now! Berlin-based Clap Your Hands will be taking the wheel this Thursday as they set sail for a very special boat party to mark their first session here in Barcelona. Expect upbeat house music during the afternoon, gradually moving on to some deep-techno as the sun goes down on Clap Your Hands’ maiden voyage.
Friday June 17th
Miss Kittin and The Girls
One of the biggest female names on the electronic music scene, French DJ and songwriter Miss Kittin will be taking to the stage at La Terrazza for a night of girl power-fueled electro, techno and house aided by her co-stars Magda and Kim Ann Foxman. A regular at some of the biggest nightclubs in Europe, such as Amnesia (Paris) or Pasha (Ibiza), Miss Kittin has been at the forefront of the European electro scene since the late 1990s.
This Is Hardcore
What would a week of partying in Barcelona be without at least one night in the city’s iconic Razzmatazz nightclub? As part of its special Off Sónar week program ‘This Is Hardcore,’ this Friday night will see some of the biggest names in dance and techno occupy four different spaces across the club: Razzclub, Lolita, Rexroom and The Loft. This event promises to be one of the biggest parties in Barcelona this weekend.
Saturday June 18th
Cynosure vs. Wagon Repair
Another of Barcelona’s most iconic music venues, the MOOG has been at the forefront of the city’s techno and dance scene since the early 1990s when it was one of the first nightclubs to introduce electronic music. As a special Off Sónar event, the Moog will be hosting a lineup organized by record labels Cynosure and Wagon Repair, including Konrad Black, The Mole and Dave Aju, with a mixture of sounds ranging from deep-house to dub to disco.
Sunday June 19th
FACT vs. WetYourself!
What better way to end the week than with a special poolside session brought to you by Barcelona-based promoter FACT and London-based WetYourself! (a regular fixture at London’s world-famous Fabric nightclub). Pack your sunscreen and swimming costume and let the music do the rest as you soak up the last of the last of the Sónar beats.
